         <description><![CDATA[<div>While there has been unreliable information shared since the creation of language, the internet often serves as a space for people to write whatever they feel as fact, even quoting facts that prove them wrong as those that prove them right! Manipulation of material is everywhere. The internet can be a very scary place. The following picture, from the article by Laurie A. Henry, gives great guidelines for how to make sure you are looking at a reputable source with the acronym "SEARCH".</div>]]></description>

This is an excerpt of what that study found:&nbsp;<br><br>“When analyzing the data across all 11 students and two different tasks (reading within multilevel websites and using search engines), we observed skilled readers regularly and, without exception, actively applying a range of inferential reasoning strategies, especially forward, predictive inferences, as they searched for information on the Internet” (Coiro, 231).</div>]]></description>

         <title>Hypertext: An Emerging Form of Literature</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The hypertext is an environment in which the knowledge provided is laden with access to more knowledge (e.g. hyperlinks, drop-down boxes, options, etc.). As Coiro cites:<br><br>"Hypertext describes 'a kind of informational environment in which textual materials and ideas are linked to one another in multiple ways' (Burbules &amp; Callister, 2000, p. 43)" (Coiro, 219).<br><br>This presents the distinct possibility of confusing the reader with too much knowledge, if not also provided the right skills to navigate this saturated environment.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br><br>" Adolescents, along with the larger population, are developing new literacies in order to negotiate their media worlds.&nbsp; I like the term, multimediating, (Doneman, 1997; also discussed in Lankshear &amp; Knobet 2003)&nbsp;as a way to define this new competence with digital media. It captures the complexity of simultaneous use of multiple media. Rather than multimedia, which focuses on the noun, the production of media, Doneman opts for the verb to capture the active processes of engaging in a variety of media environments" (O'Brien, 36).</div>]]></description>
