I have an attraction to drawing and juxtaposing natural and man-made elements to raise awareness of the space between them. Being space conscious is something I explore today as an artist and storyteller while creating imaginary compositions. My vision as an artist/speaker is to allow viewers of all ages to look beyond the playfulness of my childlike imagery and stories in order to grasp the imperative nature of respecting boundaries.

Absolutely wonderful learning experience, I enjoyed the emphasis on letting go of expectations and control and being intuitive with the process. Saz opened up about deeply personal experiences to help us navigate our own feelings about loss and the idea reframing being "lost" to empower us and process these feelings. I was so excited when I herd about this class. I was expecting a standard Watercolor painting workshop but this was so much better.

I have always found it difficult to express myself though words. But with art I can say as much or as little as I want sometimes I just need to work things out through the physical action of creating. Either way it became my first language. This is why I teach art. I know that some kids just don't have the words to get things out or maybe they just font have the courage. I am proud to teach them this new language.

I will definitely be incorporating the LOST method into my lesson plans this year. I work with a lot of students that are dealing with trauma. I want to give my students a safe avenue to explore those feelings without having to worry about exposing themselves directly to criticism.

I feel sweaty palms and shallow breaths. I see a judge, my family crying and seeing my sisters name on the lawyers file. I touch my niece and nephew hands. I hear my aunt crying and screams of "Murderer". I taste salty tears and peppermint. I smell cinnamon, Perry Ellis 360, old building smells and cleaning solutions.

I lost my oldest sister from a domestic violence shooting. She was the core of our family.

I see family coming from all over to see him one last time.

I touch the dominos that we would always play. Growing up I really did not speak Spanish, but he showed me how to play and every time I came to his house that was the first thing that I would reach for to play with him.

I hear the Spanish birthday song he would play every year on my birthday over the phone.
I smell the plants he would grow. He loved gardening.

I taste the homemade queso he would make, which was my favorite type of cheese.

I see nowhere to turn. I hear whitehorse-not calming white noise. I hear the trailing of voices of my family and friends. Their words and advice falls down into a pit and absorbed but not felt. I smell what I long for. I taste the metal of pain. My skin feels prickly and too sensitive to the touch. everything hurts-even the softest most soothing gesture.

This piece represents my curious nature freeing my weighty one. I’ve seen my creativity as a burden, shown here as bowling balls, but I’m noticing my inner child, playful self coaxing me to rise in it, shown in her balloons which I last minute made different shapes because she doesn’t follow rules ;-) I felt the weight of perfectionism drowning but her inner voice is really enlightening. Even the clouds, which I would’ve considered as fluffy in a dream life, became gray — not stormy but moreso textured, because real life (just like pursuing something) isn’t a dream but that doesn’t make it any less beautiful.
