"This is a robbery, gentlemen', one of the men said almost matter-of-factly. 'Don't give us any problems and you wont get hurt" (45).
These thirty pages were so much more interesting to read then the beginning of the book. The whole book is explaining the Gardener robbery that took place and I loved how the author, Stephen Kurkjian jumps right in and tells the story of how the museum was robbed. He also makes this bit very interesting to read, making the boring beginning worth it. Kurkjian builds up the suspense to the day of the robbery. He explaines the multitude of people that went to drastic measures to try and make the museum more protected, but in the end the funds were not there. My one criticism of the way Kurkjian wrote the robbery was the details of the hostages. If two people strolled into the museum late at night portending to be cops, then hand cuffed you, you would be terrified. He wrote the hostages as if they were bored. It was too relaxed, the men didn't seem to care whether or not the robbers would hurt them. Other then this I have so far enjoyed Kurkjian's non complicated style of writing.
