I grew up in a very rough neighborhood, and my parents were always working to make ends meat. We didn't have much, but we some how always had little books laying around the house. I remember reading the little golden books when I was a child. I was facinated by their golden spine and the colorful illustration. I remember my mom always referring back to the story of the little red hen when we didn't want to help around the house.

I remember my teacher reading The Giving Tree to us in first grade , and I can recall being amazed at how much the tree gave up for the boy. I can actually remember feeling sad, and I kept flipping through the pages over and over again. I think that is when I developed my love for reading. In elementary I remember reading all the Babysitters club books, and working my way through Judy Blume Books.

In middle school I really got involved with our schools library AR program, and could not read enough books. I became the type of reader who had trouble putting a book down, and often got in trouble for reading while the teacher was giving the daily lessons. I loved the R.L. Stein Goosebumps series, and would enjoy reading them late at night. It was like watching a scary movie, but one thousand times better.

I had an English teacher who was tough, but passionate about her literature. She opened my eyes to a whole new world of the Grapes of Wrath, and my all time favorite The Picture of Dorian Gray. I rememeber she would hold these awesome book discussion, which encouraged me to read so that I could join in the following day.

While getting my bachelors degree I went through a phase where I wanted to discover a little more about my culture. I began to read books who were written by Latin Authors. I really enjoyed reading Outcry In The Barrio, Under The Feet Of Jesus, The House On Mango Street, Don Quixote, and my favorite that I read every year with my 4th grade students to this day, Esperanza Rising. This book filled me with hope, and taught me to be greatful for all that I had. This is a message that I love to pass on to my students. I read it with my class every Novemeber, and we wrap it up with a project right before Thanksgiving.

I love to read quest books as an adult, and I love them to be filled with fantasy. I love to escape to worlds were magic exists, and any given day you can come across strange mythical creatures. I have really enjoyed reading The Twilight Saga, Percy Jackson and The Olympians, The Heros of Olympus, The Owls Of Gahool, The Hobbit, andThe Lord of The Rings Series.
I have also enjoy reading books by James Patterson, but I end up crying through many of them. Two of my favorites are Suzanne's Diary for Nicolas (such a tear jerker), and Sunday's at Tiffany's. I enjoy many books, but at the end of the day they are my escape from reality, so I prefer to leave all that is normal in our world, and get wrapped up in books filled with a twist of fantasy.

I am currently a 4th grade teacher, and I love to instill the love of reading in my students. I make it a point to read as many novels as I can with them through out the year, and make sure to make my lessons interactive. I aspire to be an inspiration, like my high school English teacher was for me. I could tell how passionate she was about the books she read, and that love she had for books transferred over to me. I want to light that same fire for my students, so I try to expose them to as many books as I can. I try to show them that regardless of their resources, they can travel the world just by reading a book.
