They offered the young german girls a huge varetiy of activities. Mostly in the so called „Heimatabende“ (patriotic nights) the girls would gather and sing german songs or do some arts and crafts, like knitting or sewing. But especially for the poorer girls it was appealing, that the Bund Deutscher Mädel often planned flied trips through germany. So many girls that may not be able to travel that much, had the opportunity to do so. Also since there were so many girls in the BDM after 1939 it was very likely that ones friends could be met there. So the BDM also was a possibility to spend time with friends without any supervision of the parents. 

An other major part was sports. A lot of sportif activities could be chosen from to participate in, for example athleics, gymnasitics, dancing or swimming. Also in school it had many advantages tob e in the BDM, for example the Nationalsocialists forbade teachers to give homework on more than four days of the week.

Major part oft he education was, that the girls would be fit and active. They were also thaught how important proper hygiene was, to be disciplined and punctual.

That actually followed direclty the order of Adolf Hitler, who stated 1935 in the bavarian city Nürnberg: „[…]Also the german women fight their own battle. If not on the battlefield, but at home. There they bear and raise new children for germany, so that germany will have a generation of strong and hard people. This is how women help our nation.“

By this he stated in fact, that the role of a woman was tob e a mother. This also explains why the BDM wanted to raise healthy woman, that kept proper hygiene and looked after themselfes. 

The so called „Hitlerjugend“ Hitleryouth was part of the entiere nationalsocialist youthgroup the „Hitlerjugend/ Hitleryouth“, which had the same name. In it were the boys in the age between 14 and 18 years. After the rise of the nationalsocialists they gained a lot of popularity and rose in numbers of members.

So the HJ also was a possibility to spend time with friends without any supervision of the parents. 

An other major part was marching and sports. A lot of sportif activities could be chosen from to participate in, for example athleics, running, but also horseriding. Even flying a plane could be learned in the HJ. Also in school it had many advantages tob e in the HJ, for example the Nationalsocialists forbade teachers to give homework on more than four days of the week.

Major part oft he education was, that the boy should be fit, strong and healthy. They were also thaught how important it was, to be disciplined and punctual and follow given orders.

By this he stated in fact, that the role of a man was to be a soldier and by this preparing for WWII. This also explains why the HJ wanted to raise healthy boys, that followed orders, never questioning who gives them.
