2. the extent & limits of their possessions; their relations with other tribes of nations;

            their language, traditions, monuments;

3. Other object worthy of notice will be the soil & face of the country, it's growth & vegetable productions; especially those not of the U. S.

4. implements for these, their food, clothing, & domestic accommodations;

5. the diseases prevalent among them, & the remedies they use; moral & physical circumstances which distinguish them from the tribes we know; peculiarities in their laws, customs & dispositions;

Another thing Thomas Jefferson wanted the expedition to do was map out important geography features such as latitude, longitude, rivers, river mouths, lakes, easy crossing areas, mountains, durability of the terrain, etc.  Jefferson wanted to know the best way to move across the land and where settlements could be built.

3.  President Jefferson also wanted to know all about the natives, one major thing he wanted to know was the extent & limits of their possessions; their relations with other tribes of nations.”  He wanted to know what they had and how they got along with other tribes, most likely for the purpose if war broke out.  He’d want to know the situation and the best way to deal or end it.

4.  The letter also says he wanted to know about “and articles of commerce they may need or furnish, & to what extent.”  This was for the purpose of hopefully establishing trade and commerce with the natives as the American’s slowly moved West.  (That wouldn’t end well - trail of tears and Indian removal act.)

  

5.  One more thing Thomas Jefferson wanted to have the expedition gather lots of science data.  He wanted to know things like animals, metals, valuable rocks, temperature, weather, etc.  He planned to use this so people could use the land, easily traverse it, and to help find good places to settle and make cities.

(Note - There were many other things Thomas Jefferson also wanted done, these are just a few ones I feel that are most notable.)

2. Record their observations precisely and “with great pains and accuracy” so that it could be read by others in the future.

3. Make themselves acquainted with the native people of the West where they were exploring.

4. Find out the weather conditions in the area.

5. Observe how well the soil grows crops.

4. Times you see different birds, reptiles or insects.
5. Observe natives to the land; their power, possessions, danger, ext.
