Since I felt that I was too old to sleep in the loft with the rest of the family, I decided to sleep in my sleeping bed on the sofa under the shelf near the front porch. In the morning, when I reached into my duffle bag to get dressed, I noticed that my brothers had put a fake snake into my bag to play a practical joke on me. "You boys are so not funny!" I told them as I grabbed the plastic snake and shook it at them. That's when I realized it wasn't plastic at all, but a real, live black snake that was wriggling in my clutch! I screamed so loud that I'm sure the entire cabin shook. I scrambled up the ladder to the loft, my vocal chords escalating with each rung. It took the cavalier efforts of both of my parents to catch that snake and take it outside. I can't remember a time in my life as scary as finding out I was gripping a large 5 foot black snake!!!
