Sugar Act 1764

1764: Sugar Act (Cause protests because people couldn’t afford sugar and were angry because it affected the Ron industry. It was cheaper for British traders to bring sugar than for the Americans to produce it there. the Americans protested and made some boycotts.

Stamp Act

1765: Stamp Act (beginning of the idea of taxation without representation) This act taxed every document that was printed, even newspaper. Colonists protested because of the taxes that were added to everything that was printed.

Quartering Act 1765

Usage of public spaces to house the British soldiers. A lot of colonial legislatures refused to pay for supplies.

Declaratory Act 1766

This forced people to follow all the laws by enforcing a greater punishment. Americans were pleased because of the elimination of the stamp act but protests towards other acts still continued.

Townshend Acts 1767

It was a combo of many additional taxes. The serie "Letters from a Farmer in Pennsylvania" inspired the people to continue boycotting the British and protesting against the acts that were imposed over them.

Tea Act 1773

EIC needed to sell their tea surplus, so they tried to monopolize the tea trade. A group of Boston patriots destroyed a tea shipment. This event was called The Boston Tea Party.

The Intolerable Acts 1774

Also called the Coercive Acts, this acts focused Massachusetts. The Port Bill closed Boston Harbor until Boston paid for the tea that was destroyed in the Boston Tea Party. Other acts almost eliminated self-government in Massachusetts. New additions to the Quartering Act forced colonists to house British soldiers in private homes as necessary. The delegates from the colonies made the first continental congress and even created the Continental association to boycott Britain.
