Input should be comprehensible, but I would further add that we should not shy away from providing challenging input (ZPD). That said, there also needs to be a sympathetic interlocutor who can and will give feedback to help the learner produce comprehensible output -- a role which, to me, seems best filled by a teacher. Together, these ideas represent the “High Expectations + High Help” orientation that I believe teachers need to have, in any discipline.
