If I had to face my first mentoring session, my first goal would be to show empathy towards the mentee to generate a context of trust and respect. How would I do it? In my opinion it is essential to observe and listen to the mentee and avoid prejudices and stereotypes. I would like to know in the first place what the other expects and thinks about the mentoring process. Then I would talk with him/her about how to combine my vision with his/her expectations and set a general goal. Perhaps it would be a good idea to write it in a notebook or shared document. MORE IDEAS?

I think it is easier to be a mentor when everything goes well. My main concern is what to do when something goes wrong. I'm good at being empathic, but it might be quiet difficult if a mentee does not like to get feedback.

I think the mentor and mentor need to set goals and work plan clearly and by consensus. Work together to solve problems and solutions, knowing that the mentor is the person responsible for it. Some things may be more difficult to discuss, but should be clarified from the beggining. How the work should be developed. I have been teaching only for 3-4 years now and feel I am very much a virgin still. Though my relationship with my students is veru good, I feel inmensely insecure when it comes to being a mentor to my colleague. We are of the same age. She has had training recently as an instructor and I have been trained as a teacher.

In 30 years of work I have never had a mentor teacher, nor have I ever been a mentor. I find the role of mentor very important as it paves the way for new teachers. Sharing pedagogical ideas and practices can achieve educational success.

At all times should we be supportive and understanding. But there are times when mentees don´t want to follow our class plan and advice and feel that they can handle everything by themselves.
But then, what is expected from me as a mentor?
When this happens, I simply observe mistakes and then make the mentee understand why that strategy didn´t work out in that particular class environment?
This task isn´t easy at all...

I fully agree with Margarete Rodrigues. I don't have any personal experience as a mentor yet, but, as far as I understand indirectly, there is need for a deeper empathy and collaboration among teachers of different ages, experiences and mindsets. In Italy, for example, there are too many "mental barriers" between teachers of different courses of studies of secondary schools.

Schools in Bulgaria haven't burnout policies.
Teachers profession is one of the highest levels of emotional exhaustion that causes acute forms of burnout.
Endly... Very good teachers don't want to be a mentor becouse this puts an extra burden on them. And there is no system to pay for that extra work, which takes a lot of time, intellectual and emotional resources.

The mentor must be a person who is professional and confident in his job, aware of his quality and willing to pass on his knowledge and experience to others. It is important to establish a contact of trust and respect, but in a close and warm manner. Of course, a cup of coffee always helps to get to know each other and relax. I think this course has already made me aware of relevant aspects of mentoring which must really be taken into consideration. Whilst I have supported some dellow teachers who started from scratch in the school I teach in, I feel as though I need to review my whole practice in supporting and supervising them to ensure the experience will be hepful and valid for both of us.

The relationships between the mentor and the mentee are really important, I am not concerned of the fact that the mentor is younger than me because even younger may have a richer experience, but we can share, discuss the learning experiences and find imperfections in teaching that can be corrected. All in all I guess we all have common concerns, but we are all driven to learn that is for sure! That's a good starting point for all of us taking part in the course and I am sure we will come up with great ideas !
- How can we engage those that are tired or uninterested? Show your passion, your drive and I am sure they will be motivated by it!
- How can you mentor someone who doesn't want it? How do you teach "unteachable"kids"? ;)

My main concern would be how to build a trust relationship between me and my mentee. Mentoring teachers not willing to change! That's probably the most challenging aspect we'll have to face as mentors.
I agree with many comments here referring teacher's burnout and age.
But I don't agree when some of us say that young teachers/people are the ones more open to new challenges. I'm 56 and I'm always looking for my next challenge!

"It was strange to work together with you as I had already been working in environmental programmes and I had big experience in designing them. At the beginning I wasn’t sure about your role and feared that you might benefit from the process, or I would have to follow stereotypical behaviour, but later, indirectly, you opened new horizons by saying: ‘Shall we approach it this way?’ For me all this played the role of feedback. I recorded everything done and during this process a parent also got involved helping with the video we made with the children in the field research.

If I had to reflect on this collaborative experience I would choose these words: feedback, orientation-focus, trust, pleasant and straightforward collaboration. " There are the words of my mentee after the end of our project..

I have mentored many times as I have worked with students with special learning disabilities. I feel that I have had a quality and effective mutual cooperation with several teachers.Several times, I was involved in other classes and undertook the whole teaching task with little co-operation with the classroom teacher.It was a very positive experience for both of us that continued with the discussion

When starting a Mentor-Mentee relationship I believe it's crucial to understand the young person background: what he/she likes, wha he/she does during the day (gaming with friends, listening to music, playing sport).
