I've got my driving licence. But I try to come by bike as much as possible. That's better for the climate. 

I'm in a youth movement. I have been a leader there for 4 years. At the moment I am the leader of the group with the youngest children. Every Sunday we play games. We go on camp and weekends. 

What I also like very much is theatre. I went to a theatreschool for a couple of years. There I learned to express myself in diffrent ways.

We learned from this that it is important to involve parents.

We discussed when parents are involved in the their childs school life. For example a parent council, school trips, parent-teacher conference, etc. 

We learned that it is important to inform the parents about the school like when they have to go to school, the school hours, the habbits of the school, the rules,... 
Even a stupid example like, when they have to bring bread to school, not on Wednesday because it's half a day.

We must ensure that we inform parents about how smartschool works, if the parents can come into the school in the morning/ evening, how they have to help their children with homework, how Flemish education works,...

There must be a good interaction between school and parents. They both have a goal in common. That's that the child is making progress. Parent have to adapt to the school but also vice versa.

We compared the schoolsystem in Syria and the schoolsystem of Belgium. It's a big difference. 

The schools in Syria are mainly performance-oriented. During the school hours the is playing less important than memorizing. In Belgium there are all kinds of playcorners like the dollhouse, car corner, the movement corner, the circle,... So playing and games are important in Belgium, children learn a lot when they play.

In Belgium you come to pre-primary school at an age of 2,5 or 3. In Syria they come at age 3 or 4 to the day care. 

I was shoked when they said that teachers hit the children when they do not listen in Syria. The children may not give their own opinion is really sad. 

The topics about what an intercultural parenting coach can do are:
- Telling eachother about their own schoolsystem.
- Telling about the habbits in the home country.
- Getting to know the beleives of the parents about education. 

In the afternoon we had an lecture about diversity in the national group but this was a project of Belgium. Tips I would memorise are:
- Give home language a place.
- Use multilingual communication.
- Watch out for personal prejudices.
- Reflect the diverse society in the range of books.

We also learned how we can involve parents:
- coffeemoment
- Set in on the bridge figure
- Storys and songs in diffrent languages
- ...

Handwriting is a bit difficult to read, so digital platforms are better.

In the afternoon we reflect with the transnational group on the school visits and  the evaluation on the day.

 Today we listened to the story of  Yousuf and  we had workshop with our national group. While listening to Yusuf, I empathized and understood better why people had to flee their country. I think that the day very productive for us.

All the experiences that we changed were very interesting. All the countries have a different educational system. The lectures gave us a lot of information to work as a teacher and a different view of the refugee situation. The visit to the school helped us think more about the refugees' children and what they have been through. I'm really excited for Girona, to meet all you in person.

I thought it was nice and interesting to hear the stories of the lecturers and to take a look inside a refugee school. I really feel like i've seen and heard things this week that you don't regularly see and hear. 
To make the movie about the 'Wereldwijs' school was a lot of work, but i think the movie turned out very nice!
I also liked working in the transnational groups, and I look forward to hopefullt seeing everybody in real life in February!

I enjoyed being able to listen to some stories from refugees. My favourite part of the week was visiting the school in Newcastle. It was called Wingrove Primary School, it made me realise the type of school I want to work at in the future. 

I am very glad that I took part in this project, I think it will help my professional development a lot in the future. I am looking forward to learning more in the 2nd half of the programme in February.
