Ireland has a president named Michael D. Higgins. He will serve a 7 year term and was nominated by the House Of Representatives. There are also two different types of parties in the Irish Government. One of the parties is Fianna Fall. This party opposed the treaty and did not want to follow its rules. The other party is the Fine Gael, this group supported the treaty and was against Fianna Fall in the civil war. The rules that they follow come from the constitution. This constitution is called The Constitution of Ireland or Bunreacht na hÉireann. These rules set strict guidelines for the citizens to follow. The constitution was made in 1937 with 34 amendments. For example one of the amendments is about voting. To vote in Ireland you have to become a citizen over 18. Voting for a president in Ireland is not as popular as voting for a president in the United States.  Few people vote for the president in Ireland. Voter turnout is around 60% of the citizens in Ireland. Euro is the second largest currency in the world. Currency is not the same all around the world. There is a different currency rate  between Ireland and the United States. As of (9-14-17) one Euro equals $1.19 in dollars. The currency rate changes daily but the main range in from 1.1906-1.1923. There are also many jobs in Ireland that help the economy. Many jobs are now replaced with textiles instead of labor. Now only 5% of people are working in labor forced factories. One of the historical events was getting a new Prime Minister. In June of 2017 Leo Varadkar became the youngest ever to lead Ireland. He is also the first gay minister from an ethnic minority. Even though, this event was not long ago it still made history in Ireland's eyes. Another historical event that happened is the potato famine. This was an event when the potato crop was on a shortage in the 1840’s. This caused 1 million people to die and it majorly decreased the population of Ireland. St. Patrick's day is on the 17th of March. This day is to celebrate when Patrick drove the snakes out of Ireland. One this day he converted many people to Christianity. St.Patrick came 432 years after the death of Jesus Christ. Many people celebrate St. Patrick's day with street parades and Irish flags. Ironically in the United States we celebrate St. Patrick's day more than people in Ireland. Another historical celebration is St. Bridgets day. This is about how Bridgit grew up as a slave like her mother and her father was a political class father. When, she escaped from her owners she ran away to go see her father. After a while, her father got sick of her and wanted her to marry the king. When she did not want to do that he wanted to sell her so she went to the king and gave him a sword to swap out for food before she got sold and the king said “her merit before God is greater than ours”, and did not take her.

Only 3% of the population goes to Anglican Church of Ireland and all religious outings have been dropping. Another type of religion is Protestant. If, you are Protestant in Ireland your goal is to try to have Northern Ireland connect to the Republic of Ireland. Protestant means to protest churches and make changes to the churches. Many people use a bucket of water to see the reflection of the sunset through the water. Another holiday that people celebrate is Christmas. Christmas is celebrated on December 25th and many families eat turkey or ham. Most families stay at home and decorate for the holiday with lights and a Christmas tree, but wealthy families go for vacation. St. Stephen's day is celebrating the death of Christian martyr. There is a legend that a wren is pointed out of St. Stephen's grave to his enemies. On this day men and boys are called wren boys. Wren boys wear outfits made out of straw or colorful outfits to celebrate the day. Parents also have the right to provide education for their child, but homeschooling is rare. Parents must meet the requirements to homeschool their child. In Catholic weddings mass is done in a church, and their wedding ceremony. After the mass most people say speeches and eat a meal. Then at the end of the night there is music and dancing to celebrate their marriage. Some people in Ireland also get divorced. This is when you legally get separated from your husband or wife. Ireland did not allow citizens to get divorced until 1997. This law says that Irish couples should divorce after 4 years of being separated. During the time of war and child abuse,  Sinead O’Connor ripped a picture of the pope on live television. Another popular artist is Enya, she was born on May 17th 1961 in Ireland. When, she was young she used to play keyboard with her siblings. In 1988, she created her first solo album. In 1879, he moved to London to be a writer, after the right thing because he received the Nobel Prize for literature. Another famous writer in Ireland was William Butler Yeats. He was born in 1865 and died in 1993. Also, like George Bernard Shaw, he won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1923. Before he died he was known for his great poetry. For example, an Irish Red and White Setter. These animals are athletic and great for hunting. These dogs weigh around 50-75 pounds. These dogs have a white coat and red patches and they are originally from Ireland. Another pet you could have is an Irish Terrier. These dogs are medium sized dog and great from hunting rats. During WW1 and WW2 Irish Terriers were used to send messages to battlefields. These dogs weigh around 25-27 pounds. One other pet you could have is an Irish Setter. This dog is also a hunting dog. This dog has red and brown fur with red and white marks on her forehead, feet and chest. There are many pets in Ireland but these are some that are special to Ireland.

Basking Sharks are the second largest shark in the world. Their mouth, opens up 1 meter wide! The Basking Shark weighs around 3,000- 6,000 kilograms. Another popular wildlife animal is the Irish Hare. Irish Hare’s have brown to light brown fur, and weigh between 3 and 3.6 kilograms. Irish hare’s eat herbs and farm crops. Hares communicate by making different sounds. Most Irish Hares live in grasslands or salt marshes. One of Ireland's famous part of the coast is The Cliffs of Moher. This is in the Atlantic Ocean, and a symbol of the Irish coastline. Ireland gets significant amount of rain and fog and that's why Ireland is always green! The average temperatures in Ireland are low and on the colder side. In the Winter, there is only snowfall for a few days. The coldest temperatures are around 30-50 degrees. In the spring the average temperature is around 40-50 degress and not very hot. In the summer, Ireland is the hottest it gets. Ireland's average temperatures are around 64-68 degrees and the warmest months are July and August. In the fall the average temperature is 45-65 and it could be cooler some days and hot the next.
