Emerson Quote 1

Emerson felt that people should always be themselves, and not follow societies customs and social norms. This makes society less interesting when everyone does the same routine, so Emerson wants people to be different. He believed in being your own individual and seeking new ideas. His quote is representing individualism because he is highlighting the being yourself part as more important. Discovering new ideas allows you to be self reliant which is one of primary philosophy of transcendentalists supporters. The world will always try to change you, but as long as you stick to your beliefs and find new ideas then you'll be better off.

This image is depicting everything from people in birds to the whole Earth in the center of the tree. Nature plays a huge in transcendentalism because being immersed in nature allows you to see yourself. People are able to discover themselves in nature, and they can live simpler lives. The goal is to live a simplistic life with only what you need, and nature makes it possible. Also, God is also seen in everything, so the tree is meant to be connecting people because everyone is seen as equal. Since nature, animals, and people are shown that also represents how there is no over soul in transcendentalism.

This article is about the Life in the Woods book. Elizabeth Kolbert is giving a summary about the book which is where Thoreau is going into the wilderness. He continues to think about the theme of simplicity by only bringing the resources that he needs. He doesn't think about what he wants, but only the necessities. Thoreau is going on this hike through the woods with a group of people. They only stop at a few places to sleep at night, but Thoreau has very few materials to sleep with not even a blanket. This is showing how simple he lives his life.
http://link.galegroup.com/apps/doc/A263718917/BIC?u=mari25641&sid=BIC&xid=15b1d379

Multiple times she says 'this is me' which is showing the importance of being yourself. She also talks about how she found her self which comes from discovery. If you search for your self and personality that's like transcendentalism because it is finding new information.

Thoreau always felt as if you should resemble your own person and not follow the social “norms” of society. His main focus for this quote is to portray nonconformity as a necessity in society, but not as problem. Being different is what allows people to grow with new perspective. Not everyone needs to resemble each other, and a society needs to have those people who look for new ideas. Not following your friends allows you to promopt new objectives, and for others to learn the power of discovery.

It talks about how they use to be on Instagram, and people want to be like famous people on Instagram. This results in them copying their methods. Nothing about that is transcendental, so Florida Georgia Line is saying how you should simply and not conform to all the public figures online. At the end specifically he says all we need is us which means you don't need to follow others or have a bunch of unnecessary objects.

John Mayer is saying that the world needs to have a change, and this comes from learning new knowledge. If you stick with the system than there is no way to discover anything different. There is no change of difference in children's educations because they're all taught the same information.

Nature plays a big role in transcendentalism because when you bring yourself into nature then you're able to take time to find new things about yourself. This picture is showing how there is not one God since her face being nature represents the equal balance. Being with nature allows your mind to be inspired and you learn the value nature has. Where I Lived and What I Lived For has similar aspects about how being in nature allows you to see how equal people and nature are.

This article is about Henry David Thoreau who represents transcendentalism very well. We focused on him in class by reading Being Henry David and The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail. He is talking about the government and how it is seen to be a tradition, but people shouldn't allows follow what the government says. People aren't able to have their own opinions because of the influence from politics. He wants people to express their own opinion and not feel a need to hold back because of conformity. People also are doing everything for each other instead of being self-reliant. This is one of the many factors that are important to Thoreau.

They only want to see what is right there in front of them because looking for new ideas scares people. No one wants to be know as different because they think people will make fun of them. Emerson wants people to be different and discover, not just see what has already been found.

Wild and free is meaning nonconformity because if you act like everybody then your almost chained to them. In order to be wild and free in society, Thoreau is stressing to be a nonconformist because then you can embrace your ideas rather than other peoples. This leads to the intuition aspect of finding new knowledge. Being wild also means being yourself which is an important part of being a transcendentalist. People need to learn to embrace their own values rather than conforming to what others believe. That's why in order to be good you need to be wild and free, and not a follower.

When you have less space, then you are able to decrease all the extra items you don't need. This is why simplifying is important, and he says how he moved into a smaller apartment which cause him to decrease everything. Thoreau did this as well by decreases to a little shack at Walden Pond with just a bed, fire, and a few chairs. Simplifying your life helps you to be at peace with yourself, and will give you more time to discover new information. Having a simpler life cause you not follow the community and you are able to be more self reliant. Thoreau believes this as well because why should you do things that aren't necessary.

The last line of her poem says "forgetting daily self," and this means being a nonconformist.
