         <description><![CDATA[<br><br><p>CONTEXT STUDY NORMS<br>AND VALUES</p><p>How to Analyse Song Lyrics:</p><br><p>1 - Find any words that you don’t know the meanings of.<br>There are a number of ways you can find the meaning of words – use a<br>dictionary, ask a friend or search the internet.</p><p>2 – Break it down. Don’t try and decipher the song as a<br>whole but look at each individual verse. You are trying to work out the<br>comments the artist is making about norms and values.</p><p>What are the key words?</p><p>What do they mean?</p><p>What do they imply?</p><p>What are the norms mentioned in the verse?</p><p>What are the values mentioned in the verse?</p><p>Remember, norms and values are related to race/ethnicity,<br>gender, class, society, religion, and sex/sexuality .</p><br><br><p>3 – Once you have made notes on each paragraph and chorus,<br>in one sentences state what the song is about...</p><br><p>4 – A good presentation should be planned and this is the<br>first steps in planning your oral. If you follow this guide you will have no<br>trouble in presenting well. </p><p>Replace the bracketed words in one of the following sentences<br>(pick the oe appropriate to your own analysis:</p><p>(The artist) persuades the listeners that the norms and<br>values in the song (<i>song name</i>) should<br>be adopted by everyone.</p><p>&nbsp; Or</p><p>(The artist) persuades the listeners that the norms and<br>values in the song (<i>song name</i>) should<br>be rejected by everyone.</p><br><p>5 &nbsp;- List there examples of how the artist convinces the listener<br>to adopt or reject the norms and values in the song.</p><p>6 – Rank these three examples from most convincing (1) to<br>least convincing (3)</p><p>Like writing a persuasive essay, giving an orating on a topic should be done to convice the listener of your ideas - ultimately you want your class mates to agree with you.<br></p>]]></description>
