How do you currently use tablets or iPads in your classrooms? (Or even the students own mobile phones!)

We use Socrative (great that they now have Apple/Android/Windows Apps). Love their "exit ticket" section where students let you know what they've learnt, just before they leave. Like Kahoot and obviously Padlet, but just starting with it.

We use:

-Showbie: this is not a language specific app, it's just a way of getting work out to the kids and getting it back again. You set up all of your classes and add resources to the class file. Within that, each pupil can submit work and only you can see it. I sometimes just do this to cut down on photocopying when I might have previously done a card sort or worksheet- send them a Pages document with lots of text boxes and they drag them around to match them up. Or I make a pdf where they can draw lines on it to match things up, or write words in to fill gaps. This is particularly good for providing extra support as I will often have a word mat/writing frame, then other slides with key vocabulary on, for pupils to use when producing written work.

-Memrise: I discovered this recently and my Y7s are now hooked! It's really easy compared with Socrative because you just copy and paste in a massive list of vocab (for example, all the vocabulary for a module) and it makes the questions for you. It's for pupils to practise, rather than for assessing - they get scores based on how many questions they've answered. I'm going to use this a lot more next year, setting up Memrise courses for each list of vocab I need pupils to learn as homework, checking they've done some revision by looking at the leaderboard, and then assessing in class using Socrative.

Socrative: this is for assessment/quizzes/vocab tests. You type in your questions and can either choose multiple choice (and input a range of answers) or make pupils type in their answer (input the answers you will accept). They then complete the quiz and you get emailed a spreadsheet of their results so it saves time marking paper vocab tests.
