Hello students! I hope everyone is staying healthy during this time! Below, is
an article dealing with physical wellness. It is optional to read the article but, I
think it would be beneficial and has some good information. There will be no
grade or no written assignment to turn in. After you read this article, I
encourage you to spark a face to face conversation with anyone that is in your
house with you. Yes, facetime does count as face-to- face interaction.
A good time to spark a conversation would be during times of physical activity like
going for a walk. This article talks about how exercise benefits our heart and
our brain. Those are only two of the plenty parts of our body that exercise has
a positive impact on. For this conversation, brainstorm as many parts of the
body that are positively affected by exercise that you, and the person you are
talking to, can think of. See how many you can come up with!

This article starts you off by giving you two.

Exercise and the Body
Whether you do it to lose weight, to reach a fitness goal or, just for fun,
exercise changes you.
There is the red face and the sweating, the pounding heart and pumping lungs, the
boost to your alertness and mood, the previously nonexistent urges to talk about
nothing but splits and laps and PBs.

But while we all know that staying physically active is essential to a long, healthy,
productive life, we don't often understand exactly what's happening behind the
scenes.

Heart: When you exercise, heart rate increases to circulate more oxygen (via the
blood) at a quicker pace. The more you exercise, the more efficient the heart
becomes at this process, so you can work out harder and longer. Eventually, this
lowers resting heart rate in fit people.
Exercise also stimulates the growth of new blood vessels, causing blood pressure
to decrease in fit people.

Brain: Increased blood flow also benefits the brain. Immediately, the brain cells
will start functioning at a higher level, says Cameron, making you feel more alert
and awake during exercise and more focused afterward. When you work
out regularly, the brain gets used to this frequent surge of blood and adapts by
turning certain genes on or off. Many of these changes boost brain cell function
and protect from diseases such as Alzheimers, Parkinsons or even stroke, and
ward off age-related decline.

Klein, S. (2017, December 7). Walking,
gardening, briskly pushing a baby stroller, climbing the stairs, playing soccer, or
dancing the night away are all good examples of being active. For health
benefits, physical activity should be moderate or vigorous intensity.

Moderate physical activities include:
 Walking briskly (about 3½ miles per hour)
 Bicycling (less than 10 miles per hour)
 General gardening (raking, trimming shrubs)
 Dancing
 Golf (walking and carrying clubs)
 Water aerobics
 Canoeing
 Tennis (doubles)

Vigorous physical activities include:
 Running/jogging (5 miles per hour)
 Walking very fast (4½ miles per hour)
 Bicycling (more than 10 miles per hour)
 Heavy yard work
 Swimming (freestyle laps)
 Aerobics
 Basketball (competitive)
 Tennis (singles)

What is physical activity? Some examples of trivia ideas could be places, actors, athletes, or health topics. You can set your game up any way that you would like. After all, this is YOUR game. Try sharing it online with people or families that you know so that they can also have fun and fitness while they are at home. Some things to think about for your game: What are your interests? What kind of questions do you want to develop? How will you incorporate fitness into your game? Will there be a point system? If so, how will the point system be designed? Will there be a reward for the winner? I hope you enjoy your fitness trivia!

Article and Activity...
Hello students! During this time of social distancing, here is an article explaining self-esteem. It is optional to read to the article but, I think it would be beneficial and has some good information. There will be no grade or no written assignment to turn in. After you read this article I encourage you to spark a face to face to conversation with anyone that is in your house with you. Yes, facetime does count as face to face interaction. A good time to spark a conversation would be during times of physical activity like going for a walk. This conversation should be about ways to boost our self-esteem. Also, talk about some ways that you can boost others self-esteem. Some things to think about when starting your conversation: What makes you feel good in life? What are some things that gain confidence in yourself? What seems to put you down (things you want to avoid)? What are some things that you can say to other people to boost their self-esteem?

Self-Esteem

The term self-esteem is used to describe a person's overall sense of self-worth or personal value. In other words, how much you appreciate and like yourself. Self-esteem is often seen as a personality trait, which means that it tends to be stable and enduring. Self-esteem can involve a variety of beliefs about yourself, such as the appraisal of your own appearance, beliefs, emotions, and behaviors. Self-esteem can play a significant role in your motivation and success throughout your life. Low self-esteem may hold you back from succeeding at school or work because you don't believe yourself to be capable of success. By contrast, having a healthy self-esteem can help you achieve because you navigate life with a positive, assertive attitude and believe you can accomplish your goals. As you might imagine, there are different factors that can influence self-esteem. Genetic factors that help shape overall personality can play a role, but it is often our experiences that form the basis for overall self-esteem. Those who consistently receive overly critical or negative assessments from caregivers, family members, and friends, for example, will likely experience problems with low self-esteem. Additionally, your inner thinking, age, any potential illnesses, disabilities, or physical limitations, and your job can affect your self-esteem.
