The Proclamation of 1763 stated that no colonists could establish or maintain land west of the Appalachian Mountains. It also acknowledged that Indians owned the lands they lived on and white settlers were to be removed. By doing this, the British were trying to keep colonists away from this land because they were already having trouble the lands east of the Appalachians.

The Stamp act was passed on March 22, 1765. The tax was imposed on all Americans and required them to pay a tax every time they used a piece of printed paper. Ship's papers, legal documents, licenses, newspapers, other publications, and even playing cards were taxed. The money collected from the tax was used to pay all the debts from the French and Indian war and protecting the Appalachian Mountains from the American Colonists. On March 24, 1765, the British Parliament passed the Quartering Act. The Quartering Act stated that British soldiers were allowed to find room and board in the American Colonies. It required the colonists to provide barracks for British soldiers and if they were too small they were to put the soldiers in an inn, an ale house, or a wine makers house.  If every house was filled, and soldiers still needed a house, the colonists were to make barns and uninhabited houses available. The colonists were upset that they were just being told what to help the soldiers and were not even asked.
