Hello everyone,

M.E.M.O. (Medical, Educational Missions and Outreach) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, student-run, humanitarian organization that seeks to serve the underprivileged by addressing their medical and educational needs. We are composed of volunteer students, physicians, and other health professionals. Every year, we raise money for medical supplies and various projects, such as the Hope and Scholarship programs, that invest in the medical and educational future of villagers in Vietnam. Of the group of volunteers, students from UCI, USC, and UCSD have the opportunity to travel to Vietnam to witness and be a part of the beautiful impact our help provides.

M.E.M.O.’s primary goal is to provide medical care and educational opportunities to the impoverished villagers in Vietnam. By supplying the villagers with the fundamental needs (health and education) deprived of them by poverty, M.E.M.O. hopes to give them a foundation in which they can raise themselves out of their current living conditions. M.E.M.O. also aims to spread awareness of the poverty seen in developing countries to the younger U.S. generation to propagate the notion of social responsibility into a brighter future.

If you are interested in learning more about our different projects and how you can help bridge the gap between developed and developing countries, please join us at our general meetings every week on Thursdays starting on October 5th from 6:30-7:30PM at PSCB 140. This organization is not only for pre-health majors; we highly encourage everyone who wants to be a part of our cause to come to our meetings. If you have any additional questions, please contact us at memo@uci.edu or visit us at http://clubs.uci.edu/memo/.

Research Outreach at UCI (ROUCI) is a student-led, campus organization that aims to connect undergraduate students to research opportunities and guide them toward success in science. We provide assistance with understanding how to enroll in bio199, emailing PIs, preparing for interviews, and building strong resumes for getting involved in research. We also organize research panels, visits from guest speakers, and mentor students as they initiate their research journey. We email PIs regularly to ask about any research opportunities available in their labs and relay those availabilities to our students at our meetings for them to consider.

Our meetings are held weekly on Wednesdays at 5 p.m. in Natural Sciences 1 in room 1114. Our week 3 meeting, this Wednesday will be overviewing how to draft an effective resume for applying to research labs, especially with limited experience. Our week 4 meeting will be having an interview workshop for students to practice the interview step when applying to labs. Week 5 we have a tour of the Qiao lab in the medical campus for students to see what a real lab looks like and learn some techniques and technology.

One of our most popular programs is the Mentors for Academic and Research Success (MARS) program. Our organization created this program to help UCI undergraduates from all backgrounds pursue their academic and research-related endeavors. Through the MARS program, we hope to unite undergraduates together and offer an inclusive opportunity for all students to have the support and assistance to accomplish their goals. We are currently accepting applications for mentors and recruiting mentees. Most of our mentees are biosci students new to UCI and undergraduate research. The mentors are experienced undergraduate researchers on many popular career paths such as medical school, Ph.D., education, and industry. Our mentors are able to advise students on navigating the process of excelling in undergraduate research and the Biosci student experience at UCI. Throughout the program, mentees will meet regularly with their mentors and participate in the club MARS social events so they can interact with other mentors and mentees in the program to network with each other and make connections.

Students interested in becoming mentees must fill out this RSVP form for the MARS Mixer event before the deadline on October 28th. The Mixer will take place on November 8th at 5:30 p.m. in Natural Sciences 1 room 1114. At this mixer, all potential mentees will meet the mentors and gain a sense of who would be the best match for them. Students who fill out the RSVP and attend the mixer will receive the official mentee application to select their mentor preferences. On November 29th at 5:30 pm in Natural Sciences 1 room 1114, the mentors and mentees will be officially matched at our club meeting.

Students can also DM the Instagram(@researchoutreachuci) at any time and a student officer will be happy to help answer any questions or concerns.

Our club board is very passionate about research, enriching the biosci community, and helping our fellow undergraduate students enter their first research positions and accomplish their goals. (Medical, Educational Missions and Outreach) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, student-run, humanitarian organization that seeks to serve the underprivileged by addressing their medical and educational needs. We are composed of volunteer students, physicians, and other health professionals. Every year, we raise money for medical supplies and various projects, such as the Hope and Scholarship programs, that invest in the medical and educational future of underserved communities in Vietnam. Of the group of volunteers, students from UCI, USC, UCSD, and UCLA have the opportunity to travel to Vietnam to witness and be a part of the beautiful impact our help provides.

M.E.M.O.’s primary goal is to provide medical care and educational opportunities to the impoverished in Vietnam. By supplying them with the fundamental needs (health and education) deprived of them by poverty, M.E.M.O. hopes to give them a foundation in which they can raise themselves out of their current living conditions. M.E.M.O. also aims to spread awareness of the poverty seen in developing countries to the younger U.S. generation to propagate the notion of social responsibility into a brighter future.

If you are interested in learning more about our different projects and how you can help bridge the gap between developed and developing countries, please join us at our general meetings every week on Thursday starting on October 3rd from 6:30-7:30PM. This organization is not only for pre-health majors; we highly encourage everyone who wants to be a part of our cause to come to our meetings.
Volunteer Opportunity for University of California-Irvine

My name is Eimi, and I am a student volunteer with Conversations to Remember, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, dedicated towards combating loneliness and isolation felt by senior citizens, including those living with dementia. We are reaching out to share our volunteering opportunity with your undergraduate students. Our virtual visit program matches teams 2-3 college students with older adults for weekly virtual video visits. Many of these older adults have been suffering from isolation, and your students could really brighten their days just by speaking with them.

Students on our virtual visits initially volunteer one hour per week, and each call lasts up to one hour, based on the senior's attention span and mood on each day. Students select the times that work for their schedule, and are matched with older adults for calls based on the times when they're available. They then have regular, weekly appointments for their visits. We expect students to volunteer for at least 16 weeks, so that they can develop friendships with the senior they're matched with.

We provide training (mandatory) to all the students in our program about the best ways to interact with the older adults on our video calls, as well as additional regular support throughout their service. Since the visits are virtual, your students can do it without any travel. This is both convenient, and a better use of their time, rather than commuting to their volunteering location. This program is free for seniors and students across the country. Volunteering does not need to coincide with the start of a semester, as we have new virtual visits starting all the time.

Students wishing for opportunities that allow them to volunteer more hours can be accommodated with other volunteering options, such as assisting us with our social media, call support, outreach, or more. Current volunteering roles are listed on our website here.

We often receive requests to include our virtual visits as possible options for service learning, internships, practicums, class projects, or extra credit. If you are considering this, please refer to this webpage for more information.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions that you have about the program, or look through our website, https://conversationstoremember.org. Your students can register to volunteer by filling out a volunteer interest form on our website. If you'd like a flyer to tell your students about us, you can find one here.

We hope that our cause will resonate with your young adult students, and welcome them to volunteer with us to build intergenerational relationships with older adults.

Hello everyone!

If you are interested in learning more about our different projects and how you can help bridge the gap between developed and developing countries, please join us at our general meetings every week on Thursday starting on October 2nd from 6:30-7:30PM.This organization is not only for pre-health majors; we highly encourage everyone who wants to be a part of our cause to come to our meetings.

Hi everyone,

I have an exciting opportunity to announce: California Ecology and Conservation (CEC) is currently recruiting students for the Spring 2026 run. CEC is a 50-day field class that's offered in Spring, Summer, and Fall. Rolling admissions start on October 24th!

Each quarter, CEC brings together up to 27 undergraduates from across all UC campuses. As a group, we visit five or six different UC reserves. Because the course is taught entirely in the field, it offers a unique hands-on learning experience for folks interested in ecology and conservation. The class awards 19 units for 7 weeks of class.

Over the 50 days, you will learn to design and develop a research plan, practice a variety of field techniques, analyze your own data (no prior experience needed!), and present your findings.

If this sounds like something you're interested in, please see the attached flyer or go directly to our website: https://ucnrs.org/teaching/cec to learn more about the program and how to apply.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to shoot me an email at renske.kirchholtes@ucsc.edu

Best,

Renske

--

Renske Kirchholtes, Ph.D. (she/her)

Lecturer California Ecology and Conservation
University of California - Santa Cruz
