This elephant seal started its journey near a coast above sea level but traveled in open water between -3,500 and -4,000 feet for most of its journey. Near the end it stopped at an underwater mountain range where the depth was less then higher than -1,000 feet deep.

Justification:
Since the animal moves from an area of high elevation to another area a high elevation (in terms of sea level) the Northern Elephant Seal is likely moving across the open water to switch between feeding grounds and breeding grounds. The Elephant Seal’s diet consists of crab, octopus, fish and other animals than it dives deep down to get, which might also explain why it moves across deep water in its travels.
