The elephant seal seems to like to stay in deep, cool waters. This elephant seal started its journey near a coast above sea level but traveled in open water between -3,500 and -4,000 feet for most of its journey. Since the animal moves from an area of high elevation to another area a high elevation (in terms of sea level) the Northern Elephant Seal is likely moving across the open water to switch between feeding grounds and breeding grounds. At the beginning of the during the first half of the elephant seals travels it in water around 17˚F while the second half of its journey is travelled in much colder water (12˚F). My animal seems to move away from warm water and to to cool, deep water where its food supply mainly lives. The elephant seal moves against the currents and it not really affected by any other outside force.
