Shays rebellion was very significant because it shed a light on the cracks of the Articles of Confederation. It had to be put down by the state militia because the national government was not strong enough. This now caused people to want a stronger national government so it can support a military. This led people to want a change. This led to the constitutional convention in May 1787 in search of a new government. There were also many consequences. The rebellion destroyed a lot of landmarks and buildings. The rebellion troubled America and led to major discussions including the formation of the Constitution.

Shay's rebellion was significant because of its long term impact of justifying a new and more centeralized government through the constitution. Shay's rebellion originally began in Massachusetts, where Daniel Shays lead a band of farmers into rebellion against James Bowdin, the governor of Massachusetts. These brothers in arms took war against the local government for imprisoning and seizing the lands of local indebted farmers. Once again, Americans felt that they were oppressed by high taxes. After the rebellion was put down, the voters turned against Governor Bowdoin - showing the discontent Americans had with the current political system. Thus, National leaders such as James Madison and Thomas Jefferson came together to form the new Constitution, in which the government would be restructured to be more centeralized. One long term intended consequence was the lifting of strict laws against new rural farmers, while one unintended consequence would be the creation of the Constitution of the U.S.

Shays rebellion was significant because it made the founding fathers realize that the Articles of Confederation were too weak to effectively run and protect the country. They needed to fix the government by making a new Constitution with a stronger central government. The unintended consequence of Shays rebellion was the Constitutional Convention. The people didn't expect the Articles of Confederation to be totally replaced, but it was necessary. The long term and intended consequence from Shays rebellion was that the founding fathers finally listened to the rebel's grievances. They took the causes of Shays rebellion into great consideration when drafting the Constitution. So they gave the federal government the power to collect taxes and the promise to protect the people with an army.

Shays Rebellion is an important historical event lead by Daniel Shay, a former captain in the Continental army, that has greatly impacted modern day government. The citizens of Massachusetts challenged the government for federalism and an edition to the Articles of Confederation, a weak form of government that imposed unfair taxing and many problems. Although Shay's Rebellion was eventually shut down, the mobs' work will pay off in the future. Shays Rebellion worked almost as a wake up call for American government. In the end, the ruling class would use the rebels' work to convince America that if they continue with the laws of the Articles or Confederation, their nation will have constant revolt and revolutions leading to chaos. The rebellion shows the pure weakness of the Articles and will lead to the constitutional convention resulting in the making of the constitution and the unity of states we have today.

Shays' Rebellion holds major historical significance due to the timing of the event. When the Declaration of Independence was signed, it was stated that a government that is destructive to a people's natural rights should be altered or abolished and replaced. Shays and other farmers in western Massachusetts were being oppressed by the banks due to their inability to pay back their loans and the government would do nothing about it. The Rebellion's goal was to alter the state government so that the farmers would not be sent to debtors prison or have all of their possessions seized. Although the Rebellion failed, it served to inform the national leaders about the woes of the people under the Articles of Confederation, thus causing them to abolish it and replace it with the Constitution of the United States, as we see today.

Born from the political and social tensions of the postbellum United States, Daniel Shay’s Rebellion culminated from years of aggressive taxation and debt collection in a disastrous economy formed by the cost of the revolution, and only amplified by the inadequate American government that had existed at the time. Just five years after the end of the revolutionary war, the United States faced a domestic conflict that gave insights to the failures of the Articles of Confederation, and helped catalyze the process for the United States to convene and rewrite the structure of our government. Daniel Shays and his 4,000 Shaysites had succeeded in ending the rampant taxation that had plagued the Massachusetts farmers as well as tens of thousands more throughout the country, but the significance of their uprising would grow to be much more influential, as both the events prior to, and during the rebellion would prove to show the inadequacies of the Articles of Confederation to remedy the conflict. Given the manner in which rights to taxation were almost completely given to state governments, the central government unable to pay off its national debt, with many states bearing their own debts to foreign powers, resulting in the excessive taxation and debts among the American public. This economic crisis was the leading cause for the Shaysites to take up arms against the newly born American government, which was ill-prepared to handle such a conflict. Given that the central government did not have the power to interfere in state conflicts, Daniel Shay’s uprising was only stopped by a local state militia raised by the Massachusetts elite. It’s these failures of the Articles of Confederation that were seemingly exploited and showcased by Daniel Shay’s rebellion, who would not only cause the constitutional convention to occur just a few months after his uprising, but would also directly influence the powers of the federal government. It’s clear the framers of our constitution had Shay’s in mind with the 15<sup>th</sup> clause of Article 1, Section of 8 of the constitution;

“To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions”

Shays’ Rebellion is the name given to a series of protests in 1786 and 1787 by American farmers against state and local enforcement of tax collections and judgments for debt. The rebellion was most serious in Massachusetts, where bad harvests, economic depression, and high taxes threatened farmers with the loss of their farms. The rebellion took its name from its symbolic leader, Daniel Shays of Massachusetts, a former captain in the Continental army. Shay's Rebellion raised crucial questions about the relationship between citizens and their government. Although the rebellion was started only to prevent the trial and imprisonment of debt-ridden citizens, the revellion soon became a source of justification for the revision of the Articles of Confederation, as well as sparking debates over the framing and ratification of the Constitution.

Shays Rebellion was a very pivotal part in American History. This was the rebellion that helped reveal the underlying problems that the Articles Of Confederation had. See the Articles Of Confederation essentially had no power to directly do anything, they were just kind of the first treaty between the initial 13 states after the American Revolution. The rebellion helped show how the federal government was inept during this time. Shay and his followers called for a change in how the government was being run. This call for change eventually planted the idea that the Articles Of Confederation weren't going to be enough to allow the nation to succeed. Samuel Adams, who was in charge of Massachusetts during the time, sought to crush the rebellion (which he later in time did). Even though he successfully put an end to the rebellion the need for change was still around. George Washington was one of the main people to see this need for change. So he and other members sought actively to create a new governing body. From these discussions that had they formed the Constitution.

It was started by the farmers who fought against high taxes because failure to pay would lead to loss of land and imprisonment. The rebellion was most serious in Massachusetts.

Shays rebellion was an influential part of American history. This is through the fact that Shays was an American veteran from the Revolutionary war, and like many was suffering in debt. His rebellion sought out to destroy the rich government that didn't nessecarily care about the poor farmers. His rebellion highlighted the problems of the government and the articles of confederation. His long term effects thusly brought light to the fact that the standing government was nowhere near up to par, and there is a needed change, bringing about the constitution.

Shays Rebellion was significant because it was the biggest act of civil unrest to indicate a change needed to be made to the United States government, operating under the Articles of Confederation at the time. This system did not provide the power to tax the people directly, to raise or maintain an army, to regulate commerce, or set a national court system or currency. The rebellion of farmers and veterans was successful in that it finally encouraged a group to meet first in Annapolis, Maryland, and then in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for the Constitutional Convention. The results of Shays Rebellion reinforced the idea that government's duty was to the people.

The significance Shay's Rebellion had on the future of the United States was the way it highlighted just how weak the Articles of Confederation was in its ability to exercise its power to enforce its own laws. Creating the central government in such a weak form allowed for the future change that gave birth to the Constitution solidifying the specific powers of each branch. Whether intended or not, the rebellion exposed the current government's lack of control leading to the redo mentioned earlier.
