Back then, women were expected to just stay at home and be a housewife. They were in-charge of the household chores like cooking food, doing the laundry, and cleaning the house. The society's mindset was: Man will work hard, while woman will stay home. It seemed that women were incapable of doing the things a man can do. This is the history of women. This is how women were treated back then. Seems unfair, huh?

Miriam Defensor Santiago is a globally famous personality, because of her legal brilliance and courageous example in fighting corruption. She has brought the Philippines in several ways. She is the first Filipino and the first Asian from a developing country who was elected in the United Nations as the judge of the International Criminal Court.

In September on the year 2016, our country mourned, as we had lost a great leader. Having served as a senator for three years, Miriam won the hearts of Filipinos because of her undeniable courage and powerful speeches.

In the contemporary world, leadership is an attribute that aims at enhancing the continued existence of almost all institutions. Many people believe that women leadership is invisible and that they are holding back their responsibility and leadership, because of the assumption that the corporate world is the men’s industry.

As youth and the future of the nation, we should step up on our game and fight for what is right. Women are not here to fill in the basic necessities of every person in this world. Women, like men, are also capable of becoming great leaders of the nation. Here are the possible ways on how we can make a change:

Start a fundraiser.
Raise your voice.
Volunteer.
Attend marches and protests.
Donate to women's movements or organizations.

The U.S. Embassy in Chad opened the program which brought together 45 female participants including NGO leaders, civil servants, IVLP, YALI and SUSI alumni, 2015 YALI nominees and female university students. Citing the many United States government programs designed to inspire and prepare girls and women, he stressed the importance of nurturing leadership skills in them so that they may fully participate in Chad’s development.
