         <description><![CDATA[<div>Jay Cooke was born on August 12, 1821, in Sandusky, Ohio. During the American Civil War, he was an American financier who helped to finance the Union war effort. He was also known to be involved with the postwar development of railroads in the northwestern United States. To the general public, he is known as the first major investment banker in the US, and also created the first wire house firm. He was said to have the most remarkable long-continued success. Although, he had encountered utter failure and hopeless bankruptcy all the time.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Marshall Field was born on August 18, 1834, in Massachusetts. He was an American entrepreneur and founder of Marshall Field and Company. This company was based off the department stores in Chicago. It was mostly known for the level of quality and customer service that it held. Field is also known for his philanthropic donations, providing funding for the Field Museum of Natural History, and donating land for the campus of the University of Chicago.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Mark Hopkins was born on September 1, 1813, in New York. One of the things that Hopkins was known for was creating the "New England Mining and Trading Company," when the Gold Rush began. He was also one of the four&nbsp; investors who formed the Central Pacific Railroad. Although he did not leave a will after he died, his fortune had an estimated worth of $20-$40 million, which his wife inherited.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Lars Kovala was originally named Lauri Kovalainen. He was born on May 25, 1818, in Finland. He came from one of the most powerful families in Finland, and had many jobs that included being a merchant, fur trader, and even an investor. He became a philinthroapist because he was a powerful businessman that still cared about the quality of life his employees had. He was one of the three people who donated money in order to establish the American Red Cross headquarters.
