We decided this would be one of our main focuses and built fun activities to help them learn the numbers in a more friendly way.

We usually turn number recognition into some form of game or competition. For example, we allow them to play games such as flashing numbers on the board for them to identify, racing to touch it on the chalkboard. And they were competitive so it was easy make them participate.

But probably the biggest challenge came when the school required us to teach our class a song to perform on English Day. Though it wasn't easy to find an appropriate play and make sure all could well participate, we decided to response to that challenge creatively (we choose "un poco loco" of the movie coco). After weeks of practice and patience, we rehearsed the students, and it looks like it was not proggress and in a moment we was almost giving up, but we don't. And, well, our class managed not only to perform beautifully but even took first place! It was worth every hoarse-voiced rehearsal seeing them be so proud and excited on stage ( Andres: fun fact I lost my voice twice due to this ><).

Overall we learned much about how to adapt our teaching methods to the needs of the students and how to make an environment where learning doesn't feel all that much like work but rather fun. Losing my voice by the end of the day was a small price I paid compared to the smiles and laughter and progress our students made. This day enforced our reasons for wanting to become teachers and gave us a memory to cherish for years to come.
