Both students AND staff will be invited to take part in this School wide initiative aiming to bring a little festive cheer, foster belonging and reinforce cohort identity.

This project will encourage subject associated submissions of cake based delightfulness. From brain buns to computer cakes, from team creations to individual submissions, an array of prizes will be up for grabs alongside a SEE bake of showcase that you won't forget......!

Submission deadlines and details to be confirmed, initial plans will involve promotion throughout Dec, submission deadline mid-Jan with a School wide event planned around Induction week. Theme: 'perceptions of pain’ 
The theme can be interpreted in a discipline specific manner and creativity is encouraged. Prizes of up to £250 per category!!! There will be an unforgettable celebration and an exhibition of selected art/photography on campus!

We have some limited resources (canvases and acrylic paint sets) which students are welcome to request S.Namvar@salford.ac.uk

Students should email a single image of art/photography with a description (Max 150 words) to N.J.Nirmalan@salford.ac.uk and S.Namvar@salford.ac.uk by the 31st January. 

Staff may also take part, with a separate prize to be arranged.

The aim is to develop creative expression alongside general wellbeing over Christmas.

Salford PassionFlash is a TED-style public speaking competition for students. We previously published that taking part in the PassionFlash training, auditions and competition boosts confidence, satisfaction and employability.

Students can start thinking about their 2min audition now and details of where to submit their videos will be provided before Christmas.

General interest reading is a fantastic way to broaden your general knowledge, language skills and relax at the same time!

We now have four book clubs in HANS - two are student only clubs (reading Dracula and Never let me go), whilst two are supported by staff (Sara Namvar, reading This is going to hurt and Danni Hinchcliffe reading into the wild).

We hope that established book clubs will be a means to continue engaging students over the Christmas break as new books are selected to read over Christmas.

Book purchases are funded by a SCELT award and any staff/student or student only groups wishing to start a book club can email me: s.namvar@salford.ac.uk.

The library are also an excellent source of general interest books - you can usually request up to four copies of loanable paperbacks and sometimes an e-copy. Contact t.m.breheny@salford.ac.uk for guidance and you can also ask for the support of the student library champion.
