They worked long  hard hours and  earned minimum wage.They were basically the people who did not own their own companies or worked under other people. They were sometimes exploited by the Bourgeoisie. When the cities were still new,the owners of the factories would sometimes exploit children. They would get little or no pay at the end of it all.
