What is the benefit of each method of observations?

Checklist observations are simple and can be done at anytime with little to no planning or can be planned for a more thorough observation this type of observation is great for day to day activities.

Time sample observations give a good overview throughout a recorded amount of time maybe the day week or month or even just 10 minutes this type of observation is great overtime for things like behaviour or for children with special needs or learning difficulties as it gives a overview of whatever is being observed i.e. behaviour over a set period of time.

Work samples these may be used in conjunction with another type of observation i.e. jotting observations or post it observations using work samples ensures the observation is completely accurate as it shows exactly what the child did.

Activity…
How do practitioners carry out observations in your setting?
What methods of assessment have you used?
Consider:
•	Planned observations with planned observations in setting the practitioners planed a activity in advance and discussed the child’s next steps and ensured the activity would support them and give them the opportunity to develop on their next steps or to show they can do them so they can move on and have new next steps.
•	Spontaneous observations practitioners did spontaneous observations all the time whenever a child was doing something new or a improvement on he time before they would write a note of it and take a photo if possible and wrote up a observation at the end of the day
•	What happens to the observation once it has been written? When it has been written up it gets put onto an app that different practitioners and the child’s parents/ carers can see
Why did you use those types of methods of assessment? We use different types of observation as different types of observations show us different things
