"We do not ride on the railroad; it rides upon us. Did you ever think what those sleepers are that underlie the railroad? Each one is a man, an Irishman, or a Yankee man. The rails are laid on them, and they are covered with sand, and the cars run smoothly over them. They are sound sleepers, I assure you. And every few years a new lot is laid down and run over; so that, if some have the pleasure of riding on a rail, others have the misfortune to be ridden upon." -Henry David Thoreau

"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan- like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner..." -Henry David Thoreau

In the quote, "Oh Me! Oh Life!" it's said with a tone of despair that made me forecast a depressing ending. Whitman wonders the purpose of life when so many efforts of his have an outcome of being meaningless. This contrasts Dead Poet Society as it creates this image where I assumed a happy ending would occur and the young boys achieve their goals and desires despite structured restrictions.

My verse in this world will be fulfilling my mother's hard work. My mother is constantly prioritizing and providing for her children. She is the most selfless person I've ever met who only wishes the best for her children. She'll never throw an insult to anybody and will remain silent in a toxic environment that only thrives off negatively. She's my inspiration and motivation for every activity I endure. She's my essential. And this is why my verse in this world is to make her happy. I wish to see a day when my mother can finally be selfish. I will combine this verse and will be entering the medical field with the desire of becoming an obstetrician. I believe mothers are the most important aspects of a child's life. From my experience, they're the ones in the general and traditional position that teach their children to care for and love the world they live in. I believe being part of this journey and field is the most beautiful thing I can attain and deliver to the world. It's such an important and cautious job because you're the one who’s in the position of following the precautions and deciding what's the best option for the creation of something so beautiful that attains the potential of unimaginable long-lasting effects.
