This allows for consistency in the diversity of the lessons and help the students to absorb it and not just expect it on certain days of the year for a holiday. Diversity is a year round venture not just 1 day a year.

Student Centered Learning

This goes along with student sharing. We as educators can have the students do a project on where their family roots come from and do a project on that country or area of the world. They could share contributions made to society or art that has come from that region and even music. Zort has said that cultural values are eroding and the use of the digital age and storytelling has helped to reduce that erosion. When students do projects like this they learn about a country and the values its culture has which are things that should never be forgotten.

Inclusive Language

Going back to the topic of language but more on a student level. Encouraging students to use language that is respectful of other cultures helps to foster respectful behaviors between classmates. You can also have students if they are unsure about cultural terms ask questions to better help develop a proper vocabulary.

Class Parties

Parties in the classroom are a great way for parents to get involved in the classroom to help out and see what their kids are learning at different point in the year. If the party is for a holiday that might be apart of their culture they can help give a small presentation on the holiday and why it is celebrated in that country and what that holiday means and the significance behind it.

Community Partnerships

Community partnerships can look different in a number of ways. This could be a field trip to a museum, or a zoo or farm it all depends on what is being taught at that time. These are fun and exciting ways to get students out of the classroom setting while still learning about the world around them. This is another good way for parents to get involved due to the need of chaperones on these kinds on outings.

Schools or the teacher can host a workshop or seminar on different topics such as parenting strategies, child development, or ways that they can support their child with homework. Create A Welcoming Enviornment

Something that goes with encouraging students to share their experiences and perceptions is creating a welcoming environment for all. If we create a space that students feel safe and welcome then they will be more likely to open up and share with their fellow classmates. Building on that it will also help the students to be more open minded to other students' cultural backgrounds.

Differentiated Instruction

It is a well known fact that all students learn differently and not just students but everyone has a way that they learn best. Some students learn best by doing, some by lecture, some by taking notes. As an educator when we get to know our students we should get to know the way they learn best so we can best help them if they are struggling. If they are struggling with tests offer a different way to test them, maybe administer the test verbally or make it as a take home test or make it open note depending on the grade.

Outreach

Community outreach can help keep the community engaged in what the school is doing. For example in high school the community at large attends the games to support their district teams. Newsletters about what is going on at the school like events and those kinds of things is a good way to help keep the community informed about what is going on and what the students are up to and learning.
