It shocks me how Genie was forced to live 13 years of her life in isolation and miscare not being able to see the outside world as well as interact with people her age. She basically has been a prisoner in her own home and it amazes me how no one knew about this dark secret from the beginning. This case can assist us in understanding human behavior because Genie's behavior can be compared to a typical 13 year old and possibly do research on her brain as well. Some questions that I have is, where is Genie currently now? Is she surrounded by people who are willing to support and care her despite her condition?

It's unbelievable that a parent could do that to their own child, leaving them isolated and alone. Looking at Genie's case, it can help us by understanding how important it is for a child to get and learn the necessary things they need in order to grow and become healthy human beings. The question I have about is her case is why did the father do such a thing?

Overall, I just feel really bad for her and watching how her family had treated her. I think that her case can help further look into and understand how isolation and neglect can cause an affect on a persons human behavior and ability to learn language and that its not all genetics, environmental surroundings also play a huge part. When they had her move around from home to home, did that cause Genie to be affected mentally?

I was truly bothered by what this young girl had to go through. I could not imagine being exposed to the world for the first time as a 13 year old child. This case did help scientists understand human behavior because when a child is young their brain is at a point where it wants to take in information. When one gets older that process slows down and it is harder to take in as much information at once. I found really interesting when they compared the average three year old brain versus a brain that had been neglected. I could physically see a difference. My only question is where is Genie now? What is she doing?

Genie's case is very unfortunate and it is very disturbing that there are some people in the world who would mistreat a child in such a way. It's also a scary concept that there may be others like Genie who are alive today who have not been discovered yet. It is fortunate that the psychologists were able to be with her to help her learn, and to better come to understand the development of children. It was unfortunate that the psychologists were not able to finish their experiment and help her to develop further. I thought it interesting how developmental stimuli are indeed important for the development of children and their brains, and that there is indeed a window of opportunity for education and development in children.

How could the brother and mother stand by and watch? Why did he kill himself? It left me with many questions, much like the scientists. However, it saddened me to hear her story. I had already heard about this case before but now that I've grown more and began to understand more it only disgusts me more. I think this case causes so much emotion within me because my younger sister was born 3 months ago and the idea of anyone putting her through what they put Genie enraged me. Her case can help us understand human behavior by allowing us to understand how people can develop if their critical needs are not met when they should be met. I wonder why they didn't let the specialist work or meet with Genie. I understand that there's a conflict of interest but she seemed like the best person to have Genie in her care. Did the state just not care enough about Gene? If not in an empathetic standpoint than from a scientific one? I just don't understand why there wasn't an effort to put her into better care.

It was so horrifying to learn the story of Genie, a young innocent girl become so abused throughout her life. It really stresses the importance of parenting and one's childhood upbringing. Cases such as Genie are key in understanding how those who suffered from childhood traumas will go onto to suffer from mental illnesses and stresses in their adult lives. It also revealed a lot about the scientists who took Genie in; Although they didn't mean to, many of the scientists found a conflict of interest that interfered with Genie's normal upbringing. I also wonder how Genie felt about her situation--was her brain able to develop an emotional understanding that what happened to her was not okay? Did she ever feel hate or despise those who abused her? How is she doing right now?

This video helped me understand how the brain forms during childhood and how necessary it is for the brain to get interactions for it to form correctly. Genie, suffering from child neglect, shows scientist the way your environment can shape the your future. Genie was unable to learn to speak in sentences because of the abuse she received. Furthermore, this case study shows how multiple factors, biological, social, and more, can affect behaviors. I would like to learn more about how she is doing as an adult and how scientists used her case to help others as well. Lastly, I think it may be beneficial to look into her parents and members of her family as well. I think this could help scientists understand people who are abusive and what their motives are, as well as is there a way we can prevent these things from happening?

While I watched, the whole time I felt really scared for Genie. It's horrible for someone to do that to their own child because the affects something like that can have on a person's life are unimaginably detrimental. It's really scary to think that there's potential of that level of mental deficiency occurring to a person, let alone hearing that it actually DID happen. I feel bad for Genie because she missed out on so many great experiences and will continue to miss out on for the rest of her life. However, her case can tell us a lot about how a child's environment and social interactions affect brain development and it can be used as a prime example in the nature-nurture issue. It also reveals a lot about how mental illness can affect our minds and thought processes for the rest of our lives. I wonder if when Genie was getting reintroduced to the world, she was able to process everything more easily than a newborn would? Did she experience any emotion? Did she know what emotions were? I'd also want to know how she's doing today.

I felt really bad and upset for the way she was treated and neglected but I was also disgusted and angry at her father for doing this to her and at her family for not doing anything to help. I think that Genies case helps understand human behaviour and what it takes to develop. Like mentioned in the video, it was one of the worst cases of neglect and child abuse that the nation has seen but it was one of the most helpful cases that was studied to understand development and growth, especially in children. After doing some research, I learned that Genie is living in a senior home somewhere in California and that there is little, to almost no information on her because it is believed that its best if shes left alone. I am really curious as to how she is doing and if she has improved since the last time they tried helping her.

I felt terrible for Genie throughout the video. The way she was treated was obviously terrible but I think this situation was a great way to shed light on how the adolescent brain develops under extreme stress. This case study is very interesting because they concluded that without proper stimulation of the brain, a child's brain actually shrinks during critical years of growth. It is also important to consider every other child who is living under similar circumstances and how their future may or may not be affected. Yes was Genie's case a break through, but was it the first or last? Most likely not. In conclusion there is more to be learned.

I felt horrible while watching this video and seeing all the unimaginable things this young girl faced so early in her life. I could never imagine how a father could do that to his own daughter. This case gives a lot of insight into what it is like for children that have gone through trauma at a young age. It also shows how hard it can be to escape experiences such as the one Genie faced. The only thing I am wondering is how Genie is doing today.

Watching this, I was left in shock. I felt so much sympathy for her and was angry because she didn't get to have an actual childhood. I believe that Genies case helps understand human behavior because it shows how an environment can change a child. Their environment and the people around them affect how they grow up and how their personality will be like. The only question I have now is what she is doing now? Is she okay? Does she have a family? Has anyone stayed in touch with her?
