Its important to fix any mistakes a student is making when reading early on so it doesn't become a habit that sticks with them. Early intervention can happen by having teachers work one on one with students correcting how they read.

Choral reading is an effective way for teachers to check students reading fluency. It gives students the opportunity to read aloud to the class building up their confidence and teachers are able to hear their pace, expression, and fluency. When I was in elementary school we would choral read a lot. I personally did not like choral reading. As a shy, introverted student I would always get nervous having to read aloud. I would not be able to focus on what was read before because I was only thinking about what and when I had to read. I understand why teachers use this strategy, it was just not something I liked as a child.

A balanced reading instruction would be a method of teaching that is inclusive and adaptive to the student's reading level, that includes things such as phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and reading comprehension. Some ways I experienced this as a kid was during a teacher read-aloud, and having to follow along or answer questions afterwards, or some sort of an assignment picking out vocab words and asking questions of comprehension.

Early intervention is important for students' growth. If you are taught to do something wrong, and no one ever corrects it, you will go about it wrong your whole life. A teacher who is attentive and cares about her students enough to correct their reading habits sets the student up for success later in life.

balanced reading is when teachers use a mix of strategies to help students read well. it includes phonics to learn the letter sounds, vocabulary to understand new words, reading comprehension to make sense of what you read and fluency to read smoothly and confidently. as a kid i remember practicing phonics and learning unfamiliar words, but i also go to read stories in class and get to talk about them, which helped me get a better understanding of the story and become a stronger reader overall

This is an important part of reading because a child needs to be able to read fluently in order to understand what they are reading. This also help the teacher's figure out what level a student is at for reading and can guide them to read more books that they can read well. We do this same types of monitoring at our school.

Ms. McCloskey starts by writing the word "she" on a whiteboard with the students. She then has the students point to the word several times and say the word out loud. She has them do the same with spelling the word. This is introducing the students to the word they will see in the book they are reading so they now know what the word is. This is important for multilingual learners because it allows them to see and hear the word clearly and it gives them spelling practice of the word. This will help them understand what they are reading better.

Choral reading allows teachers to see where a student's reading fluency is at. By reading the story out load with the students, it helps them to feel confident in what and how they are reading. They can also see how the teacher uses expression in some of the sentences to make the story feel more alive. I remember doing choral reading in elementary school. I think it helped me with my reading a little bit. If it was the whole class reading out loud, I was fine. But when it became just one person reading at a time, I would often just keep my hand down when my teacher asked for a volunteer to read. I think this could cause students to get anxiety and fear that they might be made fun of for the way they read. I feel like this strategy can work but maybe not for every student.

The reading process is how individuals put together the sounds of letters to pronounce words. It is the process of trying to figure out what information they are intaking through reading words. Understanding what you are reading, is a key competent to making connections to the text. I feel this is something that was not taught enough to me growing up, and I plan to have it heavily introduced in my future classrooms. Everyone learns at a different pace, and reading is key to a students success, so it is not something that can be skipped over, or taken lightly.

Starting at a young age will help prevent long-term struggles for the student. Most early intervention is designed to be taught either one on one, or very small groups.

This instruction is taught by mainly by small groups and choice reading for younger students.

As a young reader I experienced work with daily phonics, when and where to use letter sound rules applies. During this time, we worked in small groups with the teacher.

Another experience was our teachers read alouds. After reading a book with the class we would break out into small groups and practice comprehension by discussing and filling out a five main themes form.
