My role model/hero in my life is my grandfather. My grandfather was a very strong hearted and well rounded person that has influenced me greatly. He showed me to care for my family and never turn my back on them. He took good care of his family and I aspire to do the same. He also never stopped doing what he loved most no matter what got in the way, which was playing soccer. I too will never stop doing something that I enjoy so much because we should all be able to do things that make us happy for the rest of our lives.

The top five qualities I admire most in others is courage, passion, integrity, optimism, and empathy. People with courage aren’t afraid to take on challenges and believe in themselves. One who is passionate about something will put their all into doing that thing and make it great. A person with integrity has a clean soul and would never hurt another or cheat their way to get to the top. An optimistic person will never stop believing in others or themself because they know that something good will soon come. Lastly, a person who has empathy feels what others feel and tries to help others understand the good in a bad situation. All of these qualities are great ones that I admire most in people and also hope to achieve them all one day.

In the book, Rocket Boys, Sonny’s family plays a big part in the story, because each of his family members motivate him to follow and achieve his dreams of building rockets in all different ways. His mother motivates I’m by being supportive and caring, and helps him through his challenges. When Sonny built his first rocket and launched it in the yard, he blew up his mother’s rose garden fence that she loved. When she found out, instead of getting super mad at him, she spoke to him in a soft voice and urged him to prove his father wrong. She suggested, “Show him you can do something! Build a rocket!” She wants the best for Sonny and wants him to do great things even if that means leaving his hometown. Sonny’s father motivates him by not paying attention to him and showing zero interest in what Sonny wants to do. Sonny’s father warns Sonny after he crashes the rocket at the mine, “Collect stamps, catch frogs, keep bugs in a jar, do whatever you want. But no more rockets.” Not only does Sonny’s father not care what Sonny does, but he actually discourages him from building rockets. This makes Sonny want to do it even more now that his dad thinks he can’t.
