Before the stock market crashed women did house work and usually didn't have actual jobs. When the 1930's came more women got jobs to help support their families. The employment rate for women went up by 24% meaning it went from about 10 million women working to about 13 million women working. On 15% of married women were working whereas 50% of single women were employed. The jobs women usually had were nursing, teaching, and domestic work and on average were under payed and didn't have many benefits. Around 400,000 Mexican-American moved for America back to Mexico due to lack of jobs. Black women found it hard to find jobs with decent wages or just a job at all.
