Reflection - DESCRIPTION

• What did you want your audience to focus on?

I hoped that my audience would focus on the process behind my work as this is very important, and also the narrative behind my work - I feel that I am a very narrative driven illustrator for the most part, unless if the work has been made simply for the purpose of either my or the audiences enjoyment of it; the joy that something exists because I created it (and also that nothing can be done about it.)

• What did they leave out?

I think my description left out my reasoning for why I make things - I think knowing this is something I have struggled with, such as finding the balance between work having to have existed for a reason and for things just existing because I picked up a pencil, for example. I don't necessarily make work to shock or amaze people, I like to make work for me first and then I enjoy seeing what other people make of it much later after my initial response has run its course in my mind. I like the idea of making work for other people but I am a little overwhelmed by the weight of my potential audiences' opinions.

• Why are some elements more important or interesting than others?

I think that it is important to understand that your work, at a stage where it is not concrete and constantly evolving, is therefore not always going to achieve the same response, nor receive one necessarily from the same group of people. Having fun with it and enjoying the process is very important to me, because if I didn't enjoy the process (or at least learning from it, when I have been unsuccessful) I would not be likely to do something like that again.

• Did the limitations (Emojis / single sentence) help you focus the description or make it difficult to say all you hoped might be described?

I think Emoji is a confusing medium to try and get across what you would like your potential audiences to be, or indeed how they would respond - so I did struggle with that. I like the limit of one sentence because otherwise (bless you) we'd be here forever in endless introspection.
