The meeting would be led by a designated teacher leader, but all teachers would be encouraged to attend. Both veteran teachers and new teachers would be invited to share out their possible solutions. The leadership team works together to develop and modify the student and teacher handbook each year. This means that the teachers get a direct say in developing the policy that affects their daily jobs. The leadership team is a good way for teachers to get involved in making school wide decisions. One drawback of the leadership team is that it only has 3 teachers on the team, and teachers not on the leadership team are not able to give input. The conflict resolution board would meet to listen to students who were recently written up. Teachers on the resolution board would be able to voice their opinion about the proper consequence for the student. This would give teachers the ability to influence discipline policy, which differs from most schools that only allow administration to give out the final punishment. This process would also allow for restorative justice, as it would give students a chance to explain their behavior that led to the conflict. As the Dix book says, students need people, not punishment. Teacher leaders would meet with all new and veteran teachers to develop 2-3 school wide teaching goals for each year. Teacher leaders would also help all new and veteran teacher develop personal goals for each semester. Teacher leaders would not only have meetings to set these goals but also host meetings to check in with teachers to see how they are doing achieving these goals. By setting attainable goals, teacher leaders could give other teachers a growth mindset that fosters positive change within the school. Teacher leaders should also meet with administration at the end of each year to discuss what problems should be fixed for the next school year.
