In the centre of the city are the imposing Houses of Parliament, the iconic clock tower Big Ben, and Westminster Abbey, where the British monarch is crowned. Across the River Thames from the centre is the London Eye Ferris wheel, which offers panoramic views of the culturally-packed South Bank and the rest of London.

This symbolic statue was erected in 2011 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the friendship city agreement between Naha City and Fuzhou City in China in 1981, and to commemorate future friendship and exchange between the two cities. The statue is 15m high, 3m wide, and made of granite (from Fujian Province, China).

The location of the statue was chosen because the Naha City Urban Planning Master Plan positions the axis that runs from the coast of Wakasa to Shuri via Kokusai Street as the symbolic axis of the city, and because it is the axis of historical and cultural development.

The design of the symbolic statue was based on the topography, feng shui, history, and culture of the city, and was created based on the symbolic axis of the city from Shuri to Kokusai Street to Wakasa, and is linked to Shuri Castle.

During the Ryukyu Kingdom era, environmental improvement was carried out based on the idea of feng shui. Feng shui was also incorporated into the topography and layout of the buildings at Shuri Castle, the royal residence. One notable example of this is the dragon mechanism in the main hall of Shuri Castle. The dragons are associated with the jewel, and all five dragon styles face the Imperial Garden (the front space), which can be interpreted as a dragon vein in relation to Feng Shui. Among them, the dragon pillar with its own unique style is the motif of the symbol statue of Wakasa. Its shape is unique to Okinawa and not seen in other countries, and is very unique.

Its distinctive feature is that it incorporates the following shapes ① to ③ on a vertical square pillar.

① Coiled with its head raised, ② its front legs positioned above and below, with the raised leg holding a jewel. ③ The two dragons form a pair, one with its mouth open (A-gyo) and the other with its mouth closed (Un-gyo), and when combined with the arrangement of ② and ③, it is in common with the stance of Nio statues.

The dragon pillar in Shuri Castle Seiden is characterized by a thick square pillar with a vertical body that is connected to the parapet at the back.

This symbolic dragon pillar in Wakasa is an evolution of the dragon pillar in the Shuri Castle Main Hall, but instead of a railing, the dragon goes underground and creates a dragon vein that leads from Shuri through Kokusai Street and out to Wakasa, so it has no pedestal.

The dragon pillar of the symbolic statue is facing the sea, representing "Nirai Kanai," which is said to bring abundance from beyond the sea, and the desire for peace and development.
