Beginning in the 1100s Europeans built Cathedrals using a dramatic new style called Gothic Architecture. They had wanted the clergy to focus on spiritual matters, and the people of the church had feared it had become obsessed with wealth and power. In the early 900s they had started a monastery in the town of cluny. All the monks in cluny had to follow a strict schedule of prayers and religious services.
