The Moral Influence theory argues that Christ's death was mainly to guide humanity toward moral improvement and rejects the notion that His death was meant to fulfill divine justice. However, Mark 10:45 states that Christ died "to give His life as a ransom for many." This description of His death as a "ransom" implies that was to be released. While one may argue that it does in fact fit the Moral Influence theory and that it was a ransom from immorality, the ransom is also able to be viewed as a compensation and justice in mercy for humanity. Moral improvement is not specific to the effects of the crucifixion and God's mercy in such.

God did not need to be reconciled to us by demonstrating his love. We needed the death of Jesus to be reconciled to him and to receive salvation. Therefore, "positive moral advancement" doesn't make any sense.

This is an idealized view of human potential and makes us have a diminished impression of sin.
