Mentally Craig is caught up in his thoughts about how unhappy he is with life. One of his friends notices that he's drifted away so they ask if he's okay. Craig responds that he is, and he gets up to go to the bathroom and rinses his face off with hot water so he could feel something. During chapter 2 Craig is at his therapy session explaining what his anchor used to be(occupy his mind and temporarily make him feel good. Craig just listened as they crossed the bridge until he had the idea of standing over the bridge and the cars that passed below. There was a place that the construction workers used and that's were Craig went to stand. I understand that he could've because of where he was, but something made him want to which doesn't sit well with me. It pulls me in even more as the reader because I really want to know what went wrong and why Craig feels like dying then would've made him better off. At first he wasn't really hanging out with his friends because he was always studying to get into Executive Pre- Professional(the really good school he got accepted to) but since he'd gotten accepted he stated that "junior high was a joke" and that all he needed to do was make sure he didn't fail so he wouldn't get rescinded. This meant that he could hang out with Aaron more(a bad influence in my opinion). Nia was always around when Craig hung out with Aaron because Nia and Aaron had a thing going on. Craig talked about how he thought he was okay with it until he always saw them doing things together and it ticked him off more and more. He felt like they were throwing it in his face. Craig talked about how he didn't do any of the summer readings for school so he got a 70 on the quiz held the first day, while Aaron scored a perfect 100 because he read them in Europe. Chapter 11 goes on to talk about how hard the new school was and how Craig felt like he could do the work, but he didn't. He talks about how he knew that all he had to do was start on one page and he could easily finish the rest, but instead all he did after school was lay down and wait for Aaron to call. He talks about how he would score lower than everyone else on the tests, and how he would have four hours of homework to do. Most importantly Craig introduces the man in his stomach. The one that prevents him from eating. Craig stated "and for the first time the man in my stomach appeared and said I wasn't getting any of it"(Craig and his family were out to eat). Not only was this introduced, but at the end of chapter 11 Craig states "When I went back to my parents(after throwing up in the bathroom) I told them I think I might be you know, depressed. Craig started off doing really badly at this new high school because he wasn't fully inserting himself. In my opinion this new high school is what really pushed Craig to be where he is now(very very very very depressed). Craig basically unfolded that he didn't feel that he fit in. He felt he was average and scoring grades like an 85 on tests were bad because all the other students scored a 100. He talked about how all the other students were taking extracurricular classes and doing things that he wasn't. Things that he didn't know he had to do. I'm now understanding that the new high school was just sooo much for him that it stressed him out and made things really bad. I'm just going to guess that this is only the start of it, and that things are going to get much worse because I already know Craig(present day) has trouble eating, sleeping, and has a therapist.
