The Philippine story Mariango Almango is a fictional story that reflects the beliefs on indigenous people in the Philippines before the arrival of the Spanish.

We can see many parallels between the classic story of Cinderella and our story Mariang Almango, both protagonists experience a hard loss, of their mothers at a very young age, this shaped their entire lives, the path they took, and the obstacles they'd faced. due to this, they were unfortunately unable to have that mother-daughter bond that they deserved to have. instead, they had to be at the mercy of their 2 evil stepsisters and Aswell as there wicked stepmother. their evil family really tested their resilience, despite all these obstacles they both persevered and made a life for themselves. they both found there own different and unique versions of Prince Charming! This shows that even during hardships and no matter how you grew up there's always hope that things will get better!

Between Cinderella the 1857 Grimm brother version and Mariango Almango there are several differences. For example in Cinderella she was greeted by talking birds and mice however for our protagonist Maria, she was greeted by a rather interesting and unique character. a talking crab. While comparing our narratives we can see in Cinderella there is a large amount of repetition throughout the fairytale. while on the other hand in Mariango Almango it keeps a more straightforward approach while having much repetition. Both stories get their point across while using different narratives to convey there similar message

In our fairytales, we are introduced to 2 similar yet different. Cinderella is a young girl who comes from a European descent while, Maria is an older woman from the Philippines. There names alone show there different descents, with Maria having Latin American roots indicating she comes from a rich culture. In the 2 stories, they highlight different family dynamics and treatment, in Cinderellas story her family shows there cruel and unjust behavior, she if forced into conditions where if she doesn't finish her daily chores she may not be fed. this shows the amount of control they have on her, showing how cruel and wicked one an be. On the the hand Maria experiences something different yet similar, although her family is evil and cruel she as aleast provides her with her basic necessities, regardless of her chore status. These experiences show the different family dynamics

how challenging your life may be, regardless of your environment or the obstacles you may face with there is always hope. this theme serves as a reminder that you should persevere and be resilient no matter what
