One of the most important things that the two commandments have in common is that they are both about loving others and god more than you love yourself. 

Another one of the common things is that they are both about loving God. Even though you might think that you neighbour is not God, they are. hey have  been created in gods image, and welded by his hands.

I think that this has to do with the second commandment because the povertized families and people in the other counties are our neighbours and gods people.
