Topic Sentence: To persuade people to make slavery end, Douglass uses figurative language, personal experiences of how slavery affects slaves, and experiences of how slavery affects slave owners.
Why is/was it important?: Learning about slavery is important because it shows the affects on people. Almost no one in wealthy societies have experienced slavery and The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass has allowed us to learn about slavery and make sure we don't make the same mistake again. Without the book, a lot of people wouldn't have joined the abolitionist side of slavery and there might still be slavery today.
