7th Grade PreAp & GT Math, Medlin Middle School.
This is my fourth year in education. My favorite place to vacation is anywhere with a snowy mountain!

"The goal of assessment for learning is not to eliminate failure, but rather to keep failure from becoming chronic and
thus inevitable in the mind of the learner."
In math, and many other subject areas, true conceptual understanding of previous material needs to be present in order to be successful. With so many restraints such as a fast paced curriculum and limited class time, how do we truly fill in gaps, that have been widening for years, to reduce failure streaks?

I currently in Special Education at Byron Nelson High School, but I have previously taught World History at Eaton High School. This is my 2nd year in education (4th if you count when I was a substitute). My favorite place to vacation is on a cruise ship.
" When we use assessment for learning, assessment becomes far more than merely a one-time event stuck onto the end of an instructional unit. It becomes a series of interlaced experiences that enhance the learning process by keeping students confident and focused on their progress, even in the face of occasional setbacks." Can we, as educators, truly make students believe that assessments (both formative and summative) enhance learning? Can we do a better job of emphasizing that there will be setbacks and the best course of action would be to learn from them and focus on the progress they made?

Any beach will work for me!

Assessment is for learning not showing failure. I never enjoyed getting my test results because I did not want to feel like I wasn't smart. As a teacher when I give a student their grade it makes me sad to watch their faces.
