Read the article and write down your thoughts.

Are you surprised by anything in the article?

Does this support what we discussed earlier about death rates?

I expect a paragraph for each. Add your thoughts onto the padlet and make sure you write your name.

There are lots of resources and healthcare good healthcare services.
]Why are you surprised? Remember MEDC's have disparities across the country.

After reading the article I am certainly surprised, because how USA being an MEDC having a excellent health care can have such a high rate of infant mortality. However not everything in the USA is MEDC, there are some places in which people can access or afford a good health care, or the place where they live in is not a good environment.
As well USA is a country which is 20 times bigger than most of the countries which appear there, this means more people therefore more deaths per 1000.

I both am and am not surprised by the content of the article. I am surprised just because of the fact that this is something you wouldn't expect from a country that is rich enough and has the enough resources to support and maintain babies. However I am not surprised, as mortality differences in the U.S are largely due to socioeconomic differences. As babies born to disadvantaged mothers in the US are more likely to die. Also policies prevalent in other privileged countries similar to the U.S account for differences in mortality rates, ex: Europe's home nurse visit policies, to bring healthcare professionals into babies homes in their first year of life).

After reading the article based on infant mortality and looking how USA has a higher rate that a child would not survive in their first year of life. ''A baby born in the U.S. is nearly three times as likely to die during her first year of life as one born in Finland or Japan. That same American baby is about twice as likely to die in her first year as a Spanish or Korean one.'' by looking at this statement we can see how one of the top wealthiest country in the world and MEDC and with a lot of resources that can provide health care to citizen, is the country with a higher infant mortality rate than any of the other 27 wealthy countries.

It's surprising and almost shocking to realize that a country like this has such high infant mortality rate. On the other hand even though families do get good health care at hospitals when they get home they don't receive that help they did get at a hospital.
