Hello,
Welcome to my journal!

Throughout my explorational journey to continue my education in the dental field I am continuing to grow and learn new things. after working the past two years I was in assistant teacher in the dental hygiene program at the local Community College, I have decided to take my educational journey on a different path. it is my desire to explore the realm of continuing education for medical, dental, and other health care professionals.

Although I am not sure where this path will take me I'm excited about the prospect and learning new uses for technology through education!

Jess

Jessica Blair Theories of Learning

A couple of the learning/teaching theories that resonate with me and align with my thought process are the theories of experiential learning and transformative learning theories. I chose these two theories because they seem to make the most sense and have application in my field. The process of gaining experience is invaluable and helps one acquire skills that we carry with us throughout our lives. We build on our experience and continue to grow. Having a disorienting dilemma associated with the transformative learning theory also makes sense to me and I have experienced this myself. It can change they way you view something and does exactly what the name describes, transform you.

For my project I am looking into developing a continuing education course geared toward nurses (CNA's) in assisted living facilities on oral care. There is a great need for this type of education within our healthcare facilities because medicine and dentistry are considered separate and there is a general lack of information/education about oral care in hospital settings.
I am thinking about designing a power point presentation for the nurses and staff. I am still exploring other online platforms to use for this project.

Jess

Jessica Blair

6-6-22

Progress Report on Project

After trying a few different online platforms for course development and publication, I decided to go with a simpler format for my project by using Google Slides. the reason I chose to use Google Slides rather than a more structured online course development format is because of the limitations that both teachable, thinkific and others like it have. I had much difficulty uploading videos and other documents into their structured course format. The sites want you to constantly upgrade and pay anywhere from $30 to a $130 a month or more to participate and use their programs. although I would like to subscribe, but I am not sure about investing that right now. Using Google Slides in the past has been favorable to me.

I started my project by sorting out the reasonable amount of basic information that would need to be presented to health care professional. By dividing the class into four sections I am already starting to think that I need to narrow it down to even less information. because this is just a pilot project, I know that in the real world I would have to develop several units of these lectures and build on each topic to get to the final and result I am hoping for.
