Happy Thanksgiving!

WHEW!!! It's hard to believe that Thanksgiving in a few days! Now, I know you probably have 2 million things that you have to do in three hours, but make sure you actually make time to take in what Thanksgiving is all about: being Thankful for all that you have! One thing you can do is keep a small journal and write 5 things you are thankful for daily. Today, I went to a program at the outside of a big church. This program was called The Compassion Experience. What they do is that they go around on a big semi-truck and set up everything at a certain place. (like churches) What you do is listen to a kid from a poor country talk about their life. You walk through rooms that look almost just like their homes or regular surroundings. I listened to Carlos's story. Now, where he lives he doesn't really have a lot. Imagine having 1 half of an egg for 2 meals a day! And to think that we have a big feast every single Thanksgiving!

So just remember to be thankful for everything you have this holiday! (Because there's no denying it- you have a lot!)
GET INVOLVED!!!
To get involved in The Compassion Experience, and to see if it will be in your area, click the link below:

changetour.compassion.com

Whether you're taking your kids to a good ol' trip to grandma's house, or having all your family coming to your house, the big thing is with kids-let's face it- TABLE MANNERS!!! We know them (and hopefully THEY know them): elbows off the table, don't use your fingers, USE THEIR NAPKINS!!!.... the list goes on and on! Make sure to reinforce these publicly- important rules once again (yes, even if your child knows them by heart!) because it never hurt to be reminded!
Another thing that is big is: "But, Mommy, I don't like that!" "Ewww!! Do I really have to eat this?" A way to prevent this from happening is to see or look at all the food beforehand PRIVATELY so they don't "hurt others' feelings!"

         Good luck at THANKSGIVING!!!

Ages 3-5:
Play it simple. (Look at this post!) ---------------------------------------------------->
Ages 6-9:
Don't forget to teach kids what Thanksgiving really is all about! They may only have their attention on food, and even though that IS good, we still need to give them a good guidance and history lesson! For a great way to teach kids about it, click on the link below:

scholastic.com/scholastic_thanksgiving

Ages 10-13:
Nowadays, kids these ages really just don't care to be "thankful for things." They really just think of it as their mom telling them to say or write: "I'm thankful for food, family and friends, and a house." when they really don't mean it. But they don't realize one thing: you are never thankful for things until you don't have them! This holiday, cut down on all snacks (NOT MEALS!!!) and tell them they can't go to their friends' houses. When they beg, they will realize how lucky they are to have what they have!

Ages 14-17:
You know the type: the teen who'd rather just sit on the recliner texting. The teen who doesn't care about family at all. This is very important: TEENS NEED TO REMEMBER WHAT THSNKSGIVING IS ALL ABOUT!!!
Go to this website so teens can still feel "cool" and learn:

crosswalk.com/devotionals/thanksgiving-devotionals/archives.html

WOW! It's another Thanksgiving! (If you see any typos, FYI I just woke up. : ) ) In about half of an hour, I'm going to start my Thanksgiving with my dad, goose hunting. I seriously con NOT wait!!! One of the reasons is I'll be getting to spend one-on-one time with him. How much quality time are YOU spending with your family? Think about it!
Something just made me realize this: we might be having a goose instead of turkey for our Thanksgiving dinner!
Well, I guess I'd better wrap it up now!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
