Asumi Ikeno

When I was about 2 years old, my mother often read “Guri and Gura” to me. Especially, I loved a story about making a big castella. I was excited while reading this because some sentences have rhythms. And, I could enter a world of the story. The book is long picture book but it is easy for children to read it. The reason for this is that the sentences are short and easy words are used, I think.
When I was a kindergarten student, I read “Blackie, the Crayon”. The pictures are cute and this book uses a lot of colors so I liked to looking at and enjoyed these. At first, I felt this story was sad. The reason for this is that colorful crayons except for a black crayon make pictures beautiful but the black is said it makes the good picture dirty by others. However, it can be active in arts finally so that this story is happy end. In addition, I learned that it was important to devise a way of using things and make good relationship with friends.

Sayaka Ebina
My first memory about a book is "Fuzzy Yellow Ducklings." This book is about babies having fun by touching cloths and other materials that reproduce the skin of various animals. So, rather than having a story, the book was about babies learning about colors and tactile sensations through books. I felt very nostalgic when I found this book at the picture book store that we visited in my first class.

I do not remember a parent, a grandparent, or a teacher reading to me, but I asked a parent, and I remembered a book. That book’s title is “Older man’s umbrella,” in which the older man had a favorite black umbrella, which he treasured so much that he never used it even when it rained. At the end of the story, the older man opens the umbrella, and that scene was my favorite. It was my favorite scene because he did not like the rain because it made his favorite umbrella dirty, but he came to love the rain after this incident.

Miou Iwahara

The Three Little Pigs and The Peach Boy were the most favorite books. I always read these books when I was a child. There are a lot of cute pictures in the Three Little Pigs. I have three favorite scenes. The first scene is where the wolf blows up the house with his breath. The second scene is of the third piglet cementing the bricks together. In the final scene, all three piglet brothers work together to defeat the wolf. We can learn that it is important for us to do cooperation with others from The Three Little Pigs.
The Peach Boy also have cute pictures. Kibi-dango and the flow peaches coming down from the river look delicious. I thought I want to eat this peach when I was child and I was reading it. We can learn that it is important for us to do cooperation with others too, and it can give us the courage to be proactive and face things we don't like or ae afraid of.

My mother often read “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and “Cinderella” to me. Especially when I went to the hospital, my mother always read “Cinderella.” Sometimes, I read “Cinderella” by myself, too. I loved these picture books. As for “The Very Hungry Caterpillar,” I loved it because this picture book has a lot of colorful pictures. In addition, there were fruits and sweets pictures in this book. I have liked eating sweets since I was a child. That’s why I like this book. Furthermore, there have holes which mean eaten by this caterpillar. It was interesting for me. With regards to “Cinderella,” I love this story. When I was a child, I was a romantic girl, so I dreamed like this story. Also, the magic, such as the pumpkin converting to the carriage, was fun for me. Thus, I liked these two picture books when I was a child.

Maria Ogawa

I can remember two books. First of all, I used to read “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”. My mother read me this book, and I read this myself. In this story, hungry caterpillar eats many kinds of foods. I don’t know why I like this scene, but I used to repeat this scene. At the first time, I was surprised at the scene where he was suffering from a stomachache. However, in the last scene, it became a butterfly. When I read this scene, I was moved and I liked butterfly illustration. That’s why I liked " The Very Hungry Caterpillar”. The second one is “Watashi no one-piece”, “My dress” in English. In this story, one rabbit makes a white dress and she wears it. When she goes out with this dress, she saw many things such as flower, birds, and so on. Then The pattern on her dress changes every time she finds an object. I liked this part, so I often asked my mom to read this book.

Chiyumi Arai

My favorite book is "Little Mouse's Red Vest." I remember my mother read this book when I was about three years, and I read this book myself when I was a kindergarten. In this story, the mother makes a red vest for a mouse. The vest is important for the mouse. However, his friends want to wear a red vest, so it gradually stretches out. My favorite scene is many animals appearing in this book. For example, ducks, sea lions, and elephants appear. I was excited to read what kind of animals would appear next. And, I remember the description of animals was very cute. I think the expression of animals is drawn well because there are few letters. It has no painting background; it is simple. Also, it was easy to read because there were many repeated words. "Little Mouse's Red Vest" has various series. That is also my favorite point.

Yuka Muramatsu
When I was a child, my mother used to read picture books before going to bed. One of my favorite books of the time was "Big Beanie's Bed." I enjoyed reading it by myself, and my mother read it to me. This book is a story about some kinds of beans characters. One day, the main character lost his bed. Actually, his bed was used by birds for worm eggs. Once, he loved his bed and didn't lend it to anyone. However, he was helped by many friends after the happening and learned the importance of helping each other. So, children can learn that too. Also, the illustration is charming and has a soft impression. In addition, there is a scene where everyone sings a song at the end of this book. So, I think I learned the importance of helping each other while enjoying with my mother when I was a child.

When I was a child, my mother and father often read to me before sleep. I was able to sleep comfortably. I especially remember playing on stage with everyone in the class at the festival. I played the sixth lamb. Even though we were in the third grade at elementary school, we performed in English. It was hard for me because I didn’t know English yet. Also, it is challenging to remember English lines. Therefore I practiced with my mother many times. And I still remember all of the classmates rehearsed struggling with English. We did it much more time than any class. So it was successful, and we won the award. The principal said the stage in my class was the most memorable and wonderful. I was very happy so that I have many memorials about this. For these reasons, I like the story.

Yuika Sugawara

My earliest memories of books are “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and “one-hundred story house.” I knew the first one when I was a kindergarten student or before entering kindergarten. I remember that there were holes in the book that made me interested and excited. I liked it, so when I went to my grandparents’ house, I brought it and let them read it to me. Thus, I remember that various members of my family read it to me. In addition, I remember the memories of the second one better. I read it many times repeatedly. There are a few reasons why I remember it well. First, it itself was unique. The readers need to open it lengthways. When they opened it, a picture of the high building was drawn. Second, it made me feel as if I peeped into rooms. It was fun for me. Third, there are several series of it, so after I had become not to read it, when I went to the library or book store, I found the different series, and it made me remind the book or childhood. The illustrations of both of them were colorful and cute. Many foods appeared in the first one, and there were many things, animals, furniture, and situations in the second one, so I think those are also good for children’s learning.

At that time, I affected pretty big impact because I have never heard a cat that live a million times. Therefore, I was interested in how story written in this book at first. In addition, I was impressed the cat that knew happiness and sad after he found destiny woman cat. At first, main character of cat is saucy and he didn’t know love for anyone. So, I thought this book is such a story. However, my idea is not right. He changed from the time found a destiny cat. Hence, I was interested this story. This story is easy to read but deep. For example, there were pictures of circles, triangles, squares, etc. and short sentences to explain them. I loved reading books so much that I memorized all the lines. On the other hand, I used to read them to my parents. One of my favorite books that I read over and over again was "My father's dragon" written by Rush Stiles Gannet. The story begins with Elmer meeting a stray cat. The story begins with Elmer meeting a stray cat and hearing about a poor dragon who is being forced to work by the fierce beasts that the stray cat meets, and he sets out on an adventure to rescue him. My favorite part of this story is that Elmer grows up and bonds with the cat and the dragon as he goes on his adventures. For example he try to make pancake, help friends for success their recital and join a circus like above picture. So, he become smart and he loved around people of him.
