Composition and Layout- Main Page

For my website, I have decided not to follow the traditional layout and composition as I want it to stand out against the competition. I have decided to place the masthead and site links at the top of the page and make it so that this bar will constantly be seen when the audience scrolls through the site. To follow convention I have decided to place the masthead to the left hand corner and the links in the centre. Beneath this bar, I have planned to place a box which contains the masthead, logo and slogan of the magazine. This I think will immediately identify the magazine and will help tie together this product with all the others. In order to separate the writing on my page I have decided to place images under this box, that will illustrate the North East and tie together the Regional theme of the magazine. Under this, I have decided to place 8 boxes all evenly space to display each of my sub-genres and the articles that their separate page would include. In the center of these 8 boxes I will include images that relate to the sub-genre to further attract my audience.

Colour Scheme

The colour scheme of my magazine front cover will be the same as all of my other products, including the ancillary ones. This is because I want to have a sense of synergy and convergence throughout my brand and its products. The main colours I will be using for background etc are white and blue however I am incorporating red and black into the colour scheme in order to provide contrast and to allow certain aspects of the page o stand out. These colours also represent the North East successfully which will give the magazine an extra element of regional familiarization.

For the website, in terms of language and register, I don't plan on using colloquial and informal language to try and attract or relate to the north east students I am targeting. This is because I think that this would look unprofessional and would therefore restrict the potential audience. Instead, to attract my target audeince I plan to create direct mode of address by using "you" which will create a connection between audience and what they are reading. Most of the techniques that I will use on this product will be taken from my magazine to promote continuity.

Much like the fonts on the front cover, contents page, double page spread and my billboard; my website fonts will vary. I plan to reuse some of the fonts that appear both on my front cover and contents page as this will promote synergy and convergence in the products. The fonts I plan to use are: bold cursive, bold, block style and plain/simplistic.

For the feature pages with in my website, I plan to keep them all similar and reminiscent of the home page. The links bar at the top of the page will remain the same from the home page. Underneath this bar, I am placing an image that will be the backing of the page title, with a little summary of the page placed below this. I think this will tie in well with the masthead section of my home page. Below this section is where I plan of featuring the articles. They will all be centred however their layout will be versed every other article so that the writing is separated and the audience isn't over whelmed. Each article box will feature: a title, date, brief summary of the article and an image.
