A dash can act like a colon or like parentheses. Ellipses can be used when quoting direct evidence to show that part of the evidence has been taken out without invalidating it. This is most often used to make a point simpler and remove extra information that does not add to the point of a written piece. Both of them are also used for interruption in speech or narration. However, a dash makes it seem more abrupt. An ellipse is like a trailing pause.

Dashes and ellipsis have two major differences. The first difference would be that dashes have many more uses than ellipsis. They can be uses as parentheses, colons, commas, and commas in speech. Ellipsis can only be used as interruptions and to take a piece of information out in a quote. Ellipsis can take information out of a quote while dashes cannot, and dashes can act as parentheses and colons while ellipsis cannot. However, Ellipsis and Dashes also have a sort of similar use -- interrupting a sentence. But there are some differences in this interruption. Ellipsis mark a pause in speech, usually for someone to think or let words take effect. In contrast, dashes mark a more abrupt or a smoother transition. They can be commas or abrupt endings, not a place where someone is thinking. These are the major differences between a dash an a ellipsis. - Aryan Bavera

The most important difference between a dash and an ellipsis is two-fold. The first difference is that dashes are mainly used as interruptions in a sentence whether that is to elaborate a sentence or interrupt a character's dialogue. However, an ellipsis is used to flow a sentence, or mark a pause, rather than an interruption. The second main difference is that the only other use for ellipsis is to show that a portion of quoted material has been taken out. Dashes are much more adaptable and can act as colons and parentheses.

Dashes and ellipsis have two main distinctions. The first distinction will be that dashes uses a lot more than ellipsis. In expression, they can be used as brackets, colons, commas, and commas. Ellipsis should be used only as interruptions and as a reference for throwing a bit of information back. Ellipsis can take details from a quote, while dashes can't, and

dashes can serve as parentheses and colons, while ellipsis can not.

Ellipsis and Dashes, however, also have a kind of common use — interrupting a sentence. But this disruption does have certain variations. Ellipsis marks a break in speech, usually of someone contemplating or letting words take action. By comparison, dashes mark a smoother or more rapid transition. They may be commas or abrupt endings, not a place someone's thinking about. These are the big differences between an ellipsis and a dash. The key distinction between dashes and ellipses is that dashes are used

to break sentences and can be used as a comma, colon, or parenthesis. However, ellipses are used to signify a pause/sudden stop in voice, a transition which is taken out for quoted information, or for a trailing feeling. Dashes are used to interrupt sentences and occasionally take the place of other punctuations such as commas, colons, or parentheses. In ellipsis this is not the case. Ellipsis is used to show a pause in speech, to trail off a thought, or to indicate that some things have been taken out of quotation. A dash can serve as

a colon, or as parentheses. Ellipses can be used to cite relevant proof and explain that part of the proof was stripped out without invalidating it. This is most commonly used to illustrate an argument and to delete unnecessary detail that doesn't apply to a written article. These are often found in voice or narrative for disruption. A dash does make

things feel more sudden, however. An ellipse resembles a trailing split. The main difference between dashes and ellipses is that using a dash indicates a speech delay while usng an ellipsis reflects a speech pause. Ellipses are often used to imply that when composing, those words are pulled in from a quotation.

~Zoya Syeda :D

Dashes are used for marking and indicating interruptions, acting like parenthesis, and used like a colon while Ellipses are used for indicating a pause in speech and marking a portion of speech that has been torn away. Another difference is that Dashes just interrupt a sentence. Meaning that they just stop the sentence for a second. Ellipses don't stop the sentence, they indicates the words or phrases that got teared out of the sentence.

Both dashes and ellipsis show a pause in speech but in two different way. Dashes are more to show an interruption is in sentence or in a story. For example- "Move our of the way of that c-" BAAM! An ellipsis is more to show a pause in speech when someone stopped talking for whatever reason. For example, " I love your shirt... Shelly!" Both of them are important for pauses in speech, but they have two different purposes.
