My Spring Break

My spring break was very relaxing and fun because I got to spend time with my family. It was very relaxing because I didn't have any assignments to worry about and I got to clean my room which is always good to have. I was very happy being able to wake up at 9 to 10 am because I'm not a morning person so being able to wake up late and to stay up was a big plus to my break. A thing that made my spring break fun was that I discovered new artists to add to my playlist. I like variety in the gene of music that I listen to, so finding different artist flow style and beats make the gene stay trending.

The Danger of a Single Story

My take on the danger of a single story is that books have a lot of power in our way of thinking about a group of people as kids. For example if all the books you had as a kid were about how African Americans are in gangs and the only thing they do is steal and kill, you will be afraid about African Americans and then you will be shocked to see how many legit successful African Americans there are. When Chimamanda came to America at the age of 19 to go to university, one of her American roommates was shocked that she could speak English very well and was confused when Chimamanda said that English is the official language of Nigeria. She asked if she could listen to Chimamanda tribal music and was disappointed to find out it was Mariah Carey. She assumed that Chimamanda couldn't use a stove and before she even met her she felt sorry for Chimamanda because of the single side story she was taught about Africans. This is how you create a single side story, showing a group of people as one thing and only one thing over and over again and that is what they become. The main problem about a single side story is that it robs people of dignity so we won't see them as equal to us.

Sorry Mrs. Morales I forget to add the link at the end

I think this is my favorite poem because of the overall message of the poem. Sometimes you do feel like giving up but when you do you unfortunately realize that it is harder than just keep pushing on in the long term.

Oh, how I long for you to be yourself forever, unchanged, but, my love, you don’t have any identity for any longer than your time on earth. You should prepare yourself for this approaching end and pass your sweet likeness on to someone else. In that way, the lease that you hold for that beauty would not expire and you would survive after your self’s death, when your beautiful children would carry your beautiful form. Who allows such a lovely house to fall into decay when it could, with good management, be properly protected from the stormy winds of winter and the frustration of the eternal coldness of death? Oh, no-one except the irresponsible. My dear love, you once had a father: let your son be able to say the same thing.
