MAP is a dynamic program that asks questions based on the student's previous responses, which is also called Computer Adaptive Testing. It can be tailored to the individual progress of the learner and it can track a learners progress over time. MAP gives teachers realtime feedback about the grade level performance of their students in reading.

Thum Y. M., & Hauser, C. H. (2015).

I chose to use MAP Growth to design my lesson to fulfill common core standard CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.1.1. to ask and answer questions about key details in the text. As part of MAP Growth K-2, students are quizzed about the text that they have read and asked if they can identify key details in the text that signify that they comprehended the text.

The objective of using MAP Growth K-2 software is to teach students to be active readers and to assess their comprehension of what they have read. A goal would be to ascertain what level of reading that they are identified as being in by the software. Identifying students who are struggling in reading comprehension would also be another goal of this activity.

Initially I would use MAP Growth in the computer lab, so that all of my students would be participating at the same time. In my classroom I may also have a computer where I can assign individual students time to work with MAP Growth, if I feel that a student could particularly benefit from using the program.

MAP Growth K-2 is an extremely useful program because not only does it give students reading practice but it also accurately assesses their level of learning. In first grade, a major objective is to help students develop their reading abilities and it is very important to identify students who may benefit from remedial instruction.
